Activity 1
Introduction
Through a stimulating animated story your child will learn a range of colours (bleu-blue,
rouge-red, jaune–yellow, marron–brown and orange-orange) in French. As well as learning
to describe simple classroom objects (une règle – ruler, un sac – bag, un cahier – note book,
une trousse – pencil case, un crayon – a crayon and un stylo, a pen).
What to do
Go to www.rigolo.lgfl.net and click on Unit 2: En classe, then Lesson 1 and select À
l'école (1)
Ask your child to watch and listen to the interactive animated story.
They can pause and rewind the story at any point.
Questions you could ask:
Where is Jake?
Can you see any differences between a French school and your school?
Do they wear uniforms in French schools?
Do you have to have a backpack for your school?
What would there be in their backpacks?

Encourage your child to read the speech bubbles and colour in the picture in the activity
sheet.
Read out the speech bubbles to your child, but change one of the colours. Did they partner
notice which one you changed?
Activity 2
Introduction
In this engaging activity your child will look at the objects Jake takes out of his bag and learn
to say and spell the words in French.
What to do
Go to Activities, click on Unit 2: En classe, then Lesson 1 and select Qu’est-ce que tu as?
Click on Allez to start the activity. Polly asks Qu’est-ce que tu as? (‘What have you got?’)
Your child will see Jake pick up one of his school items.
Click on the audio check button in Jake’s speech bubble if they want to hear the correct
answer.
If your child answers correctly, click on the tick button. If their answer was wrong, click on the
cross.
Click on Allez to proceed to the next question.
Once your child has answered correctly, ask them how they’d say that word.

Ask your child to tick all of the objects in the activity sheet which they have and write what
colours they are and then draw them.
Extension Activity
Introduction
In this extension activity your child will learn numbers from one to ten in French.
What to do
