The Kinder-“Garden” Gazette
September 7, 2010
Current Events
It was great to meet many of you at the Meet the Teacher night. If
you were not able to attend, please read through the information that came
home in your child’s black folder, especially my Meet the Teacher packet. If
you have any questions, please contact me.
A September calendar came home last week so that you would be
aware of the various activities that will happen during the month. A good
place to keep the calendar is in the back clear pocket of your child’s folder.
We will be completing the administering of the KRAL state
assessment this week. This must be done within the first six weeks of
school. You will receive your child’s results when they have been completed.
Scholastic Book orders are due by September 8th either online with a
credit card or by sending the forms in to school with a check.
I have posted the first day of school pictures on the class website:

Language Arts
What a colorful beginning it has been in Kindergarten! Thank you for
helping your child to dress for our color days. The children will be bringing
home a color book – Crazy Color Creatures! They have enjoyed learning and
singing the song! We will refer to it often as we learn to recognize the color
words. At a later date, I will be sending home color word flashcards for
practice. On Thursday, we will celebrate all of the colors. Your child
should try to wear his/her favorite color on that day.
Books we shared last week or will this week include The Big Yellow
Bus, Little Blue and Little Yellow (Blue and yellow hugged each other and
turned green!), Brown Bear, Brown Bear and It Looked Like Spilt Milk. We
also made a class book using only a purple crayon like Harold and the Purple
Crayon.
We have begun our Phonics Dance Alphabet Chant. We are sharing
Magic Sound shape sprinkles to help make us smarter! If you would like to
donate any special sprinkles during the year, they would be appreciated!
We will be talking more about environmental print this week. Can your
child find some at home? It can be sent in at any time.
As part of our language arts program, your child will be bringing home
a small copied book each week. The first books coming home this week are
wordless books. The next books are called predecodable books. They will
include the sight words as they are introduced. They will be followed by
decodable books where the words can be sounded out. There will be 37
books in all. Your child will be so proud to read them to you! It would be good
to keep these books in a small box or container for your child to go back to
for practice.
Math
In our Everyday Math series, activities have included measurement,
pattern blocks and counting. Every tenth day of Kindergarten, we will be
meeting a new friend, Zero the Hero. On Friday, the tenth day, the children
will meet him for the first time.
Please continue to discuss with your child what his/her 100 collection
might be for our 100th Day of School. I will send home a form next week.
Happy Birthday to: Gunnar – 8/25 Ameen – 8/29 Anthony 9/8
Star Gardeners: Week of 9/12 – Sophia and Selena
