In Reading this week, we will review the letters Aa, Ee, Hh, Kk, and Mm and
begin Unit 6 of our Read Well Whole group activities, learning about the letter Rr.
We will practice identifying and writing the uppercase/lowercase letters
correctly on the hat line, belt line, and shoe line. We will practice identifying

the following number formation chants at home: 6- down, around, in a
circle you go, that’s a 6- don’t you know?; 7- across the sky and down
from heaven, that’s the way to make a seven; 8- make a S and do not
wait, go straight back to make an eight; 9- make a circle, then a line,
that’s the way to make a nine; 10- tall straight, circle then, that’s the
way to make a ten
In Health this week, we will be learning about safety. We will discuss
many forms of safety, including fire safety, stranger danger, street
safety, playground safety, and more! We will also be writing about
ways we can stay safe. Please speak with your child about ways to
prevent dangerous situations and what to do in case of an emergency.
Come up with a Fire Safety Plan for your home! (These do not have to
be turned in!) Families should have a designated meeting spot outside
of the home in case of a fire. Please speak with your child about where
your meeting spot is in case of a fire. Please review your home address
and emergency contact numbers with your child.
*Important*
Please check your child’s purple folder TODAY for a Review letter (pink paper)
that is being sent home to let you know what skills will be assessed on the
upcoming Report Card. Please let me know if you have any comments,
questions, or concerns.
Be sure to check your child’s purple folder throughout the week for “Read Well
Small Group Homework” (small yellow folder.) Please be sure to listen to your
child read the homework page at least two times and then sign in the
highlighted yellow box on the back of the envelope and return it to school the
next day.
The Education Oversight Committee is sponsoring a contest, Read Your Way to
the Big Game, to get students excited about reading. Participants must read 6
“reading-level appropriate” books to be eligible for the grand prize, 4 tickets
with sideline passes to the Clemson/Carolina football game on November
28. Five participating teachers will be drawn at random to receive $500 for their
classrooms. In addition, schools with at least 70% participation will be eligible to
receive one of two $2000 grants for their school library. We would LOVE to have
100% class participation! All reading logs are due back by Monday, November
9, 2015! Happy Reading! The following students have already turned in their
reading logs: Akeelah, Allie, Asher, Brynley, Carson, Isaiah, Ji, Kimberley,
Meredith, Wylie! 
Please be sure to practice all FLASHCARDS daily with your child! NEW
FLASHCARDS were sent home last week!
Please continue to practice writing our letters/lightning words on the laminated
“Theo Bear” paper that we sent home. Please remember to use the “letter
formation” page as a guide when writing the letters.
Homework: Homework is a very important part of the learning process. I will be
sending homework several times a week. Please make sure that your child
always completes the homework with a pencil and returns it to class the next
school day, unless otherwise noted! Thanks for your support!
Please visit our district/school website to view our monthly breakfast and lunch
menus. Our lunch time will be from 11:15 -11:40 each day.
Please return signed and completed September Homework Calendars if you
have not done so already. October Homework Calendars were sent home last
week. Please complete the daily October Homework Calendar activities at
home.
Please make sure that your child has his/her purple folder and agenda each
day. Please be sure to sign/initial the agenda every day and check your child's
purple folder for papers that he/she may bring home. It is very important that
everyone review/practice what we did in class to reinforce key concepts.
Breakfast will be served each morning in the cafeteria beginning at 7:20
and lasting until 7:50. If students are not present in the classroom by 8:00, they
will be considered tardy.
Please remember that if you wish to change your child's transportation in the
afternoon that you send a written note in the agenda or you call the school
before 2 pm and let us know. Thanks for your cooperation!
Any money that is sent to school should be in an envelope labeled with the
student’s name, amount, and what it is for (ex: lunch money, field trip, etc).
We encourage all students to participate in our school wide reading program,
100 Books Club. Please note that we can only accept 10 books per week. At
the end of the year, all 100 Books Club Members will participate in an event to
celebrate their achievements. If you do not have any books at home and
would like for us to send some home with your child, please write a note in your
child’s agenda and we will be glad to share some books with you.
These students have read books for the 100 Books Club! Way To Go!
