Kindergarten Newsletter January 7-11, 2008 Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and vacation! Please remember that now that “chilly” weather is upon us that students will need to dress appropriately with hats, mittens, coats, and boots when necessary. Please refer to your school calendar for our procedures when we have delays, early dismissals, and cancellations. This week in Kindergarten Reading and Language Arts- This week we will continue with our theme 5 entitled “Let’s Count”. We will meet new alphafriend Fifi Fish for letter Ff. We will review previous letters Pp and Gg. We will continue to focus on our Kindergarten sight words of: a, to, and, we, like, see, I, my as well as go and will add the new word “no” We will continue working on using “juicy” describing words to describe foods. We will continue to distinguish letters/words, first/last letters and practice return sweep when reading a book. We will continue to learn how to categorize and classify objects. We will continue to focus on story structure (beginning, middle, and end). Math-In Math, we will be working on temperature. We will investigate temperature using comparative words and identify thermometer as a tool for measuring temperature. We will review and apply concepts, skills, and strategies learned in chapter 6 “Measurement”. We will review length, capacity and weight. Social Studies- In Social Studies we will continue to talk about the United States of America. We will talk about “The First Americans” and how did explorers come to America. Science-In Science, we will continue our comparison of the seasons of summer and winter. Let’s hope we have some snow or cold weather soon so that we have some tangible experiences to make our comparisons! We will talk about the NASA astronaut “Joan Higginbotham”. We will investigate also “what can the wind move?”.
