COURSE DESCRIPTION: Geometry is a one-year college prep course. Some of the topics of
study include Cartesian coordinate graphing, area and perimeter of plane figures, surface area
and volume of solids, proofs, polyhedral, basic trigonometry, ratio, probability, problem solving
and review of major Algebra I topics.
SUGGESTED MATERIALS:
 Used Daily:
o Pencils with Eraser
o Notes Notebook (spiral, or composition) with line and/or graph paper
o Assignment Notebook (spiral w/ pocket, or Folder or 3-ring) with extra paper
o Scientific calculator (calculators on cell phones may not be used in class)

Other frequently used suggested materials:
o highlighter
o color pencils
o small scissors
o glue stick
o Protractor/Straight Edge/Mathematical Compass
DAILY ASSIGNMENTS/ACTIVITIES/EXTRA CREDIT:
 Approximately 10-15 minutes of class time is allotted during most class periods, in which
students may start the assignment and receive 1:1 or small group assistance.

Assignments are due at the beginning of the following class period. If assignments are
turned in after the due date up until the day of the chapter test they will be accepted but
considered late and will be marked with ½ credit.

Opportunities for extra credit are extended through selected assignments. Students are
notified of any extra credit opportunities. It will not be given on an individual basis.

Activities include in-class partner and small group work. Some activities integrate handson learning and common core goals. Participation is necessary for class success.
ASSESSMENTS: are comprehensive
 Quizzes may be administered at any time.
 Tests are administered at the completion of each chapter. Students are expected to be
prepared for every test. There are no test ‘re-takes’ in the geometry class.
FINAL EXAMS: are comprehensive and administered at the end of each semester.
METHOD OF EVALUATION: The FHS Mathematics Department has a common, weightedgrade breakdown for the geometry classes:
15%: Assignments/Activities/Extra Credit
55%: Assessments
30% Final Exams
In accordance with the FHS Mathematics Department policy, the overall semester grade can
be no higher than one letter grade above the final exam grade.
For example:
In order to maintain a semester grade of A(-), the final exam grade must be at least B(-).
In order to maintain a semester grade of B(-), the final exam grade must be at least C(-).
CITIZENSHIP: School and classroom rules are in your PAWSPORT. Consequences for
inappropriate behavior in class may include rule reminders, verbal warnings, detention, parent
contact, or class suspension depending on the circumstances. Evaluation of a student’s
citizenship is based on two principles:
Semester Citizenship Grades will be based on the following:
 O Student demonstrates outstanding attitudes and/or behaviors toward class, subject,
teachers and fellow students.
 S Student demonstrates acceptable attitudes and/or behaviors toward class, subject,
teachers and fellow students.
 N Needs improvement. Student sometimes behaves in ways that do not support the
principles of the class.
 U Student’s attitude and/or behaviors seriously interfere with classroom instruction.
*A key difference between Satisfactory (S) and Needs Improvement (N) is whether or not you
correct inappropriate behavior with one or two gentle reminders. If you cannot do this, then you
will receive an (N) or (U).
ATTENDANCE: Students need to be in their assigned seat, once the late bell rings. A late
arrival disrupts the learning environment. The FHS Late Policy, as outlined in the PAWSPORT,
is incorporated by reference herein.
ABSENCE: check the website for the daily assignment and/or download documents for the
assignment. Use the geometry book to complete notes in the geometry notes notebook, these
can be checked when student returns. Upon the student’s return to school, they will be given
equivalent additional days, for excused absences, to complete assignments. Tests may be
made up on Thursdays during PAWS.
SCHOOL RULES: Campus rules and policies in the PAWS Port will be adhered to in this
classroom; see appropriate pages for a detailed list. Remember that no food, drink, or gum will
be allowed; all iPods, cell phones and accessories must be turned off and placed out of sight
during class; and all staff will be enforcing the school dress code throughout the entire school
day.
TEXTBOOK/MATERIALS RESPONSIBILITY: Math textbooks and scientific calculators can be
checked out from and returned to the FHS library. They are the responsibility of the student.
GPS INTEGRATED CURRICULAR FOCUS: Each semester, the FHS mathematics department
selects GPS mathematics topics that parallel the current GPS curriculum.
CHEATING: Cheating will be defined as using someone else’s efforts in place of your own or
providing work for someone else. Consequences for all individuals, both receivers and
providers, involved in cheating will receive a zero on the assignment in question. Examples
include letting a friend copy your work, providing answers to a test, or printing two copies of
work produced on a computer. All students at Folsom High School are held accountable to the
school wide Academic Honesty Policy as stated in the PAWSPORT. Please consult the policy
for a detailed list of what constitutes cheating and consequences for each step. A single
instance of cheating counts as a Step 1 Offense and follows a student throughout their entire
class schedule and through all of their years at Folsom High. The next instance (even if in a
different class or years later) counts as Step 2.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY: Folsom High School is committed to equal opportunity for all
individuals. Activities shall be free from discrimination based on gender, race, color, religion,
national origin, ethnic group, marital or parental status, physical or mental disability or any other
unlawful consideration.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me as soon as
possible. I am most accessible by email.
