Course Description:
This practical hands-on course in problem solving covers common hardware and software
solutions for Macintosh and Windows based PCs. The course focuses on the operating systems
and hardware of both Mac and PC platforms, including investigation into the most frequent
difficulties found in specific applications. An emphasis is placed on the best solution to the most
common work interruptions caused by software and hardware conflicts. Issue including printing,
viruses, lost files, surge protection, extensions/drivers, and hardware and software installation are
also covered. No typing experience is required. Students should have a desire to learn how to
solve computer problems and the ability to attend to detail.
Goals and Objectives:

Students gain an understanding of computers and related ideas.

Students demonstrate the skills and knowledge of a technological problem solver by
effectively applying troubleshooting skills.
Assignments Grades:
During the course students will be given projects and assignments. The assignments and projects
will be assigned a due date. Since all work on the assignment is to be completed in class,
students will not be given extra time to work on the projects.
Assessment grades:
Quizzes will be given periodically throughout the course. They will be announced a few days in
advance and generally be worth 50 points.

2GB to 4GB Flash Drive (Optional)
Tardiness:
Tardiness is not acceptable. Four or more tardies during the semester will results in an after
school detention. Be sure to make it to class on time and ready to learn.
