Executive Branch Department PowerPoint Presentation Project
Purpose: You will become our class expert on one agency within the Executive Department. The students
will gain experience in researching, preparing, and presenting an informative PowerPoint project. This
assignment requires each student to make numerous informational, organizational, and time management
decisions.
Directions: Each student is responsible for developing and presenting a unique, creative, and informative
PowerPoint. Students may choose from a varied list, including: Department of State, Department of Justice,
FBI, CIA, Department of Homeland Security, NASA, ATF, US MINT, etc. I will provide a list of choices,
and to reduce repetition, the teacher may direct you to choose from those not selected yet. Students need to
research their topic in the textbook and then online at credible websites. Government sponsored web sites
(the ones that end in .gov) are the best for pictures and information. They should then organize the
information into outlines, concept maps, or other note sheets.
You are responsible for planning and presenting a project that INCLUDES:
1. Has agency / bureau / department’s topic name, symbol(s), and date of origin
2. Why it was created
3. Identifies the current leader / administrator (Director / Secretary)
4. Diagrams the organization / bureaucracy / hierarchy
5. Identifies the functions / responsibilities and how it carries them out
6. Reveals its importance to (influence on) America
7. Explains some / any major current issues or news stories related to your topic
8. Charts the annual budget and other statistics, if not top secret
9. Identifies the motto (if applicable) For example: FBI' is "Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity"
10. Has a “Works Cited” page
100 point grade is based on the (10) Creativity, (10) Presentation, (15 pts.) Outlines, Concept Webs, or Note
Sheets (20) Quality of Research, (20) Accuracy, and (25) Completeness

 Outline or a chronology (timeline) of key events related to the agency
