Dear Candidate
CAMBRIDGE - GCE ‘O’ AND ‘A’ LEVELS OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2014 EXAMINATIONS
The following are brought to your kind attention:
1.
A candidate cannot enter simultaneously as a private and school candidate. In no case the
Mauritius Examinations Syndicate will accept duplicate entries.
2.
Candidates entering for Advanced Level examination may offer up to four subjects. Please note
that General Paper is also available at Advanced Subsidiary Level. Candidates entering for
Ordinary Level examination may offer up to nine subjects. However, candidates will not be
allowed to enter simultaneously for subjects at Advanced and Ordinary Levels.
3.
Candidates are advised to be careful when filling in Entry Forms as any request for a change of
subject will entail payment of additional fees once the entries have been submitted to the
University of Cambridge International Examinations.
4.
No arrangements will be made in case there is any clash in timetable with that of other examining
bodies.
5.
Candidates will not be permitted to offer a subject which requires coursework/project assessment.
6.
Carry Forward Option
Coursework marks may be carried forward for certain subjects only. This option is available once within
thirteen months of the assessment session for which the coursework was originally submitted and may
be used on only one occasion.
7.
All candidates entering for English Language (1125 or 1126) at Ordinary Level will have to take
the Oral Paper which carries 12% of the total marks.
8.
Entries of candidates for the Science subjects at Advanced level (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
regarding options/alternatives will be provisional and in no way binding. MES will allocate the
alternatives after receipt and verification of all entries for candidates taking these subjects. You
may wish to note that the two alternatives are equivalent and bear the same level of difficulty.
9.
Candidates are informed that when submitting entries their consent will be needed for their
personal data to be passed on to Cambridge and other third parties.
10.
RULES FOR CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL EXAMINATIONS
A notice to candidates is displayed inside and at the entrance of all rooms where examinations are
held. The notice states clearly that if students cheat, try to use unfair practice, or break the rules of
the examination through malpractice, they may be disqualified from all their subjects and their
results withheld.
11.
SUSPECTED MALPRACTICE CASES
Candidates who are caught doing any of these things, risk losing their qualifications and being
barred from examinations for five years.

Obtaining unauthorized access to examination material, including examination papers

Bringing unauthorised material into the examination room

Using a calculator when this is forbidden

Collusion or attempted collusion with other people during the exam

Copying from another student

Pretending to be another student

Plagiarism

Any attempt to reveal the content of exams outside the examination room for 24 hours after
sitting the examination
12.
Candidates are advised to consult the subjects offered to private candidates and the syllabuses for
Mauritius centres available at the Syllabus Section of Mauritius Examination Syndicate or on the
MES website.
13.
‘O’ & ‘A’ LEVELS - ACCESS ARRANGEMENT
Candidates who have permanent disabilities are requested to submit to the Mauritius Examinations
Syndicate an application for Access Arrangement not later than Tuesday 22 April 2014. A
medical certificate, in English, must accompany each request. The medical report must
indicate the nature of the disability, and recommend the amount of extra time deemed
necessary and the specific requirement/arrangement required.

It is very important to note that once an Examination Centre has been allocated, the Mauritius
Examinations Syndicate will not consider any request for change of Examination Centre.
15.
PART OR FULL CANCELLATION OF ENTRY
Request for a part or a full cancellation of your entry should be submitted to the Mauritius
Examinations Syndicate (Attn: Senior Examinations Officer Mrs H K Teeluck - Lareine,
Cambridge Examinations Section) by Friday 04 July 2014. Your request should be submitted on
the Special Form PCP (Part Cancellation) or FCP (Full Cancellation) available at the Cambridge
Examinations Section and on our website http://mes.intnet.mu together with a photocopy of your
Statement of Entry. No such request will be entertained after Friday 04 July 2014.
16.
AMENDMENT OF ENTRY/ADDITIONAL SUBJECT
Request to amend your entry regarding Change of Option or Change of subject(s) and additional
subject(s) will be entertained against payment of an appropriate fee and should be submitted to the
MES on the Form AOE (Amendment of Entry) available at the Cambridge Examinations Section
on request. A photocopy of the Statement of Entry should also be attached with the Form.
17.
WITHDRAWAL OF ENTRY ON MEDICAL GROUNDS
An application for a refund on medical ground will be considered only when accompanied by
a statement from a medical practitioner issued during the examination period to the effect
that you were unable to sit for the examination. Such application together with a photocopy
of your Statement of Entry should reach the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate not later
than one week after the examination.
