Background: Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for
CFSP, paid a visit to Indonesia. On Friday 21 April and Sunday 23 April, he had bilateral meetings with
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of Indonesia, Yusuf Kalla, Vice-President of Indonesia, and
Hassan Wirajuda, Indonesian Minister for Foreign Affairs. Javier Solana also visited Banda Aceh and
the Aceh Monitoring Mission (AMM).

SAUDI ARABIA & EGYPT
Background: Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for
the CFSP, met Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic
Conference (OIC) in Jeddah on the first stop of his tour of the Middle East covering Saudi Arabia,
Egypt, Jordan, the Palestinian Territories and Israel. Following their discussions last week and their
joint statement with the United Nations Secretary-General issued on 7 February 2006, Javier Solana
and Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu discussed the way forward to renewing the dialogue between Europeans
and the Muslim World. After his meetings in Jeddah, Javier Solana continued to Riyadh to meet the
Saudi Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Sudan & Chad / October 2005
Background: Javier SOLANA, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative
for the CFSP, visited Sudan and Chad from 7 to 9 October. He had talks, as part of the EU Troika
delegation, in Khartoum on Saturday, 8 October, with First Vice-President Salva Kiir. On Saturday
afternoon, Mr Solana flew to El Fasher, the main city inarfur, for a field trip during which he visited the
African Union (AU) military and police mission (AMIS II) and the EU personnel deployed in support of
the AU. In N'djamena Javier Solana meet Idriss Déby, President of Chad. Mr Solana discussed the
regional dimension of the Darfur crisis, the role Chad could play in finding a solution and the support
the EU could offer.

DR-Congo / July 2003
Background: On 16 July Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High
Representative for the CFSP, paid a visit to the headquarter of the "Artemis" EU military operation in
Bunia (Ituri, DR Congo). The visit was aimed to show his personal support to the forces on the ground
and to establish contact with the government of Kinshasa and Uganda to establish further links to
strengthen the peace process in the region.
