NOTES
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Introduction to Computers is a one (1) semester course which meets four (4)
hours per week. Two (2) hours in lecture and two (2) hours are spent devoted to work on computer work
stations. The course is designed so that the student will learn the principles of computers and information
processing; and the fundamentals of Windows 7, Microsoft Word 2010, Microsoft Excel 2010, Microsoft
Access 2010, and Microsoft PowerPoint 2010.

ASSIGNMENT POLICY:
Specific assignments will be listed in myitalb at the appropriate week. Due date will be listed on the
individual assignments.


All myitlab assignments and other homework assignments are due prior to you taking a particular exam. If
the assignments are turned in after the exam has been taken the student will receive a grade of 0 for the
missed assignment. EXAMPLE All WORD assignments are due prior to taking Exam 2.

Assignments must be printed (when appropriate) and properly identified – your name and the assignment
name and number. Printouts must be stapled together in order as listed in the assignment.

Students are expected to do their own work. A student may not use or copy another’s work (or portions of
it) and represent it as his/her own. The penalty for cheating is SERVERE.
EXAMINATION POLICY:

Five (5) EXAMS will be given.

NO MAKEUP EXAMS

Each student is allowed to drop their lowest exam grade.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Attendance is required. Please make every effort to arrive on time! Attendance and punctuality are critical
to success in the course. If you are unable to attend class, you are responsible for completing the material
covered in myitlab. Please keep me informed about any extenuating circumstances that may affect your
attendance. Only five absences are allowed. Anyone with more than five absences or more classes will
suffer a grade reduction or will be ask to withdraw from the course. If you arrive late for class, be sure to
check with me at the end of class to be marked “tardy but present. “Two late arrivals will be considered one
absence.
Students that leave class before they are dismissed will be marked.
MISCELLANEOUS:

Do not lose or misplace this syllabus; the rules and procedures listed are strictly enforced.

It is recommended that students read the assigned chapters prior to the class lectures. Class participation is
encouraged.

I have the right to raise or lower your grades based on subjective values such as attitude, class participation,
preparation, understanding the material and attendance.

Please be sure that all electronic devices (cell phones, pagers, etc.) are turned off during class.
