JUNE 10TH, 2012 THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST EX 24:3-8, HEB 9:11-15, MK 14:12-16, 22-26 (168) PLEASE REMEMBER OUR PARISH IN YOUR WILL No matter what the size of your estate, if you want to provide for relatives, friends and our Parish you will need a WILL. If you die without one, you lose control of the disposition of your assets. The state law in which you reside will tell your family where your money and property goes. Naming our Parish as a charitable beneficiary in your Will is simple. Through careful review of this alternative you may save further income and estate taxes. For further information, you and/or your attorney may contact: “He sent two of his disciples with these instructions: ‘Go into the city and you will come upon a man carrying a water jar. Follow him. Whatever house he enters, say to the owner, ‘The Teacher asks, where is my guestroom where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ ...During the meal he took bread, blessed and gave thanks and passed it to them. ‘Take this’, he said ‘this is my body…’” We live in an age where we are concerned about identity theft. Shredders, credit card scams, fraudulent documents are a part of our culture. We become afraid concerning our security and identity. As Catholics, we celebrate that which gives us our identity, the Eucharist. We look to our roots, discover our heritage and celebrate that the Lord Jesus gave us the gift of His Body and Blood, to make us one with Him and each other. The Passover celebration recalled the saving work of the God of the first testament. Our celebration today carries out the command of the Lord Himself to ‘do this in memory of me.’ We celebrate this day in order to give praise to our God and express our communion with each other. We are asked to step aside for a moment and try to comprehend the awesome Presence of our loving God in this Sacrament which He gave to us, for the forgiveness of Sin. We are asked to pause as we approach the altar to consider this great gift of the Eucharist. We are reminded to pause, receive the Sacrament with reverence, and then express our deep felt thanks as Jesus makes us who we are, a Eucharistic people. O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine. ParishPay provides a steady stream of revenue for the parish, and enables funds to be collected, recorded, and deposited efficiently and effectively. Also, this revenue becomes a steady source of income, not subject to the fluctuations that our regular Sunday collections exhibit, and helps us plan and manage parish finances and activities more efficiently. It will also let the donor make and annual Parish gift and pay this gift over the entire year. It eliminates the need for writing a weekly check or making a cash gift through the offering plate each week. Parishioners may increase or decrease these gifts as their circumstances allow. WE KNOW THAT MANY PARISHIONERS WISH TO GIVE GENEROUSLY AND REGULARLY. PARISHPAY PROVIDES THE VEHICLE FOR THIS FAITHFUL GENEROSITY Please call the Rectory and inform us if you know of anyone who is homebound, feeling the effects of old age or is ill and not able to attend mass. We will be happy to visit them on a regular basis and provide them with the sacraments at home. Call 212 741-1274 Please note that we have a new listing Parish Activities. Please send your announcements and events to be included in the bulletin and web: communications@washingtonsquarecatholic.org The Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ is a feast of the Eucharist, Jesus’ gift to us at the Last Supper. It is a celebration of one of the most intimate and substantive gifts anyone could give another, one’s very being. And it is a gift that nourishes so that we can fulfill our mission. What is that mission? The U.S. Bishops wrote in The Eucharist and the Hungers of the Human Family (1975) 12, it is: “participation in the struggle for freedom and justice,” which “is a duty for each one of us, as it is a central element of the Church’s mission of redemption and liberation. In the Eucharist we find the source of our deepest commitment to the loving service of our brothers and sisters.” Let us go forth then in service to our sacred mission. ~~Pax Christi Metro New York Pastoral Council Election Results Congratulations to our newly elected Pastoral Council members: Paul Antunes, Debbie-Ann Chambers, and Michelle Fitzgerald.
