technology experience with new innovations developed with SBA Technologies to serve the
expanding area of research and development in Microfinance. By offering consultation outside
the commercial world to numerous governmental and educational institutions, Dr. Kunigahalli is

financial services to the world’s developing economies. Dr. Kunigahalli has agreed to serve as a
member of the Technical Advisory Board for the soon to be published Advanced Technologies
for Microfinance: Solutions and Challenges, A book edited by Dr. Arvind Ashta of the
Burgundy School of Business (Groupe ESC Dijon-Bourgogne), France. This book is scheduled
to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc., www. igi-global.com) in 2010, a leading
publisher of science and technology literature.
Spearheaded by Senior Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Raghavan Kunigahalli,
SBA Technologies Inc. has developed a patent-pending innovative approach to risk-averse
mobile banking and financial services that is helping Microfinance services provide new markets
for innovative financial services companies. This approach provides a standards-based
technology interface that easily interoperates with existing financial networks and helps to ease
the burden of meeting the many new regulatory requirements rapidly developing in these growing
economies.
Nearly three billion of the population among developing countries lack access to the basic
financial services needed to help them manage their lives. Microfinance offers the badly needed
financial and banking services that are empowering the poor and providing some of the
opportunities necessary to improve their productive capacity and subsequently, their lives.
Modern information technology brought on by the growth of the internet and mobile telephone
services have spawned Mobile Money Transfer, Branchless Banking, and Mobile Bill Payment
systems across the developing economic landscape. New innovative technologies have lowered
the costs associated with microfinance, broadening its reach into the mainstream commercial
financial services industry.
