Name ____________________________ Date ___________________ 8th Grade Bill of Rights Project Project Description: In this project you will have an opportunity to share your understanding of the Bill of Rights based on the documents and cases we have studied in the last couple of weeks in Social Studies class. The point of this project is for you to present a situation in which an amendment is being violated. In addition, you will also be required to explain why you think the amendment is being violated. This assignment is due on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 (subject to change). Part 1: Choosing TWO amendments for this project To have some variety across the classroom, you will be asked to NOT choose amendments 1 and 4 as your two options. For example, instead, you can choose from: -Amendment 2 - Protects the rights of states to maintain a militia and of citizens to bear arms. -Amendment 4 - Protects against unreasonable searches and seizures. However, you can choose two ways to show your understanding of Amendment 1. For example, you can choose from: -Amendment 1 - Guarantees freedom of religion -Amendment 1 - Guarantees freedom of assembly Part 2: Choosing the way you would like to present your information Everyone learns in different ways. Keeping in this mind, it is only fair that you also get the chance to present the information you have learned about, in different modalities. You can present your understanding about the amendments via a/n: a. Recorded video with a script b. Comic book with at least 12 panels c. Detailed picture / poster including a written understanding of the particular amendment. d. Poem with at least 8 stanzas e. Recorded song with attached lyrics f. Create a booklet for a recent immigrant to the United States. It should describe the rights the government promises to protect in the Bill of Rights. Use your own words and illustrations or cartoons. g. 5 minute skit that includes a script h. Collage that is full with many pictures depicting the amendment (must include a written explanation of what is happening in the various pictures) i. A choice approved by a teacher *Although it is not required, you should choose two different ways to display your knowledge of the two different amendments. For example, you may want to create a video about the second amendment and then a make a poem about the fourth amendment.
