8th Grade Bill of Rights Project
Project Description:
In this project you will have an opportunity to share your understanding of the Bill of
Rights based on the documents and cases we have studied in the last couple of weeks in
Social Studies class. The point of this project is for you to present a situation in which an
amendment is being violated. In addition, you will also be required to explain why you
think the amendment is being violated.
This assignment is due on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 (subject to change).
Part 1: Choosing TWO amendments for this project
To have some variety across the classroom, you will be asked to NOT choose
amendments 1 and 4 as your two options. For example, instead, you can choose from:
-Amendment 2 - Protects the rights of states to maintain a militia and of citizens
to bear arms.
-Amendment 4 - Protects against unreasonable searches and seizures.
However, you can choose two ways to show your understanding of Amendment 1. For
example, you can choose from:
-Amendment 1 - Guarantees freedom of religion
-Amendment 1 - Guarantees freedom of assembly
Part 2: Choosing the way you would like to present your information
Everyone learns in different ways. Keeping in this mind, it is only fair that you also get
the chance to present the information you have learned about, in different modalities.
You can present your understanding about the amendments via a/n:
a. Recorded video with a script
b. Comic book with at least 12 panels
c. Detailed picture / poster including a written understanding of the particular
amendment.
d. Poem with at least 8 stanzas
e. Recorded song with attached lyrics
f. Create a booklet for a recent immigrant to the United States. It should describe
the rights the government promises to protect in the Bill of Rights. Use your own
words and illustrations or cartoons.
g. 5 minute skit that includes a script
h. Collage that is full with many pictures depicting the amendment (must include a
written explanation of what is happening in the various pictures)
i. A choice approved by a teacher
*Although it is not required, you should choose two different ways to display your
knowledge of the two different amendments. For example, you may want to create a
video about the second amendment and then a make a poem about the fourth amendment.
