Course Evaluation for Bio 342 Human Physiology Fall 2003
Please provide your anonymous generous candid constructive criticisms. Your comments will be
crucial in determining whether modification are needed and where improvements can be made in
this course.
Please type in your comments in space below each question and print out the document, staple the
pages, and to turn in to Dr. Davis. Your anonymity will be insured so that you can feel free to
comment positively and/or negatively.
How useful were the study questions for each chapter provided by Dr. Davis?
How useful was the website for the course?
How often did you check the course website?
Did you improve your scientific writing by completing two abstracts based on laboratory
experiments?
Was writing a second abstract beneficial?
Did you appreciate have the option to choose a hypothesis to test?
Are you more comfortable using a T-test now that you have written two abstracts?
As a result of the lab where we critically analyzed a scientific paper on androstenedione, has
there been any change in the way you view scientific literature? If so, please describe.
What is your recommendation regarding keeping the abstract writing experience in this course?
Do you believe that the grades you have earned thus far in the course accurately represent what
you have learned?
Do you believe the tests are comprehensive and fair?
Do you believe your work has been graded fairly?
What do you think of having your work graded anonymously?
What are your comments regarding the pace of the lectures?
What are your comments regarding the overall pace of the course?
What are your comments regarding taking a 3 hour lab period to cover the visual system?
How effective were the “stories” Dr. Davis told about his relatives and others in helping you to
understand the material? (daughter Alayna with broken arm and nerve damage, wife Tia with
Seraphem and menopause and kidney disease, niece with hypothyroidism, aunt with
hyperthyroidism, father-in-law Joseph with emphysema, and Christopher Reeve with spinal
cord injury.)
What changes could Dr. Davis make in his lecture style that would improve your learning?
Do you feel comfortable asking questions of Dr. Davis during class? Outside of class?
Do you feel that Dr. Davis truly cares about your learning and your grades?
Should former students hold “help sessions” before the tests? Did you take advantage of this
option? If not, why not?
What are your comments regarding using computer systems (MacLab)
for data acquisition and analysis?
Do you learn more when you have to figure out how to connect the apparatus (MacLabs,
stimulators, transducers, etc.) to obtain the data you need?
Do you feel this course has prepared you for the MCAT, DCAT, OAT, and/or GRE?
What, if any, of the auxiliary materials that accompanied your textbook did you use and find
useful?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dr. Davis is very interested in your evaluation of the effectiveness of the laboratory experiences.
Please provide your comment and suggestions, and also indicate for each whether to “keep it as
is,” “modify it” (state how), or “replace it” (with what?) For each lab, please rate your level of
interest and the value of the experience.
RefleFrog reflexes: intact, single, and double-pithed frogs
HumaHuman ulnar nerve action potential conduction velocity
CriticCritical reading of scientific literature: Androstenedione study
HumaHuman sensory systems: cutaneous receptor density and point localization.
IsomeIsometric frog muscle lab with force transducers: twitch, latency, fatigue, etc.
IsotonIsotonic from muscle lab and testing four hypothesis (set up apparatus yourself)
HumaHuman EKGs (resting and exercise), blood pressure, and heart sounds
Frog Frog heart physiology: effects of temperature and drugs
EmphEmphysema and carbon monoxide case studies in respiration
What are your views regarding the sacrifice of living frogs for the purposes of these labs? Do
you believe what was learned justified the loss of life?
What additional advice do you have for improving this course?
