Dear Parents/Guardians and 6 th Grade Student, August 2013 My name is Ms. Jen Scism, and I will be your sixth grade teacher this year! Welcome to sixth grade! This will be my seventh year at Blue Creek School, and it will be my second year teaching sixth grade. I look forward to seeing some familiar faces as well as meeting new families. This year will be both exciting and challenging as we prepare for Shaker Junior High School! This year, sixth grade will be departmentalized. This means that I will be both your child’s homeroom teacher and math teacher. Mrs. Silver (kellysilver@ncolonie.org) will be teaching science and social studies, and Mrs. Freeman (DanielleFreeman@ncolonie.org) will be teaching reading. We will also be running on a six-day rotation schedule for specials. Mrs. Silver, Mrs. Freeman, and I will be working closely throughout the year to make these changes an easy transition for both you and your child. I have a passion for incorporating technology into lessons to increase participation and create a deeper understanding of the content. My website (http://jscism.pbworks.com) is currently under construction, but will be used frequently throughout the year in class and at home. Please contact me if you do not have access to the internet for homework/projects so we may work out a plan. Parent communication is very important to your child’s success. Please feel free to contact me with any questions through email (jscism@ncolonie.org) or by calling the school (ext. 4464). I will do my best to get back to you as soon as I can. I would love to have your email address as well to send important reminders. Please understand that you may not be able to reach me prior to September because I will be in Europe for the next couple of weeks. However, I will respond to any questions or concerns you may have as soon as I return. Please feel free to drop off your class supplies on September 4th. You may also bring them on the first day of school. We will label all materials on the first day of class. Please also bring a water bottle and snack each day. I look forward to working with you and your child this year! Thank you, Jen Scism
