This seminar focuses on both the experiences of illness, and also the telling and re-telling of the
illness experience. We will learn about the importance of illness narratives and how they are
constructed, and also examine examples of different types of illness narratives (both to learn more
about the experience of illness and also to identify different styles of illness narratives). We will
examine a variety of illness experiences, such as: chronic; acute/critical; disability; mental. We
will also discuss examine various forms and functions of narratives online, and also explore use of
narrative in medicine.
