Experimental accomplishment
In a 250 mL round bottom flas, 9.15 g of KMnO4 were dissolved in 75 mL of water
and, while stirring, 2.95 g (0.03 mol) of cyclohexanone were added. The resulting
mixture was haeated to 30 °C and some drops of 10 % (w/w) NaOH solution were
added. Temperature was then raised to 50 °C for 20 min and then to 100 °C for 1 min.
The mixture was then cooled down to room temperature and acidified to pH 0 with
concentrated HCl. Then it was put in the fridge overnight. The resulting crystals were
then filtered, washed with cold water and characterized. An amount of 2.79 g (0.019
mol) of product was received.
For the calculation of the yield the molar amount of received product was
divided by the molar amount of reactants used, and then multiplied by 100. This
calculation yields a percentage of 63.3%:
0.017 mol
 100%  63.3%
