The company has high expectation for meeting untapped customer needs. The video game delivery project involves developing a web-based application and support structure to provide customers with video games on a monthly rental basis. The project is estimated to cost about $500,00, and monthly operating costs of about $50,000 per monthly for year one and $60,000 per month for years two and three. Estimated benefits are about $1 million the first year after implementation and $2 million the following two years. Product Characteristics and Requirements: 1. Online platform: members will be allowed to create accounts online. 2. Multi-console support: video game titles much available for all types of platforms including popular gaming systems, computer, and learning systems used in preschools and elementary schools. 3. International service: product and product information must be available in several different languages. 4. Database: database must be able to track at least 7000 individual selections in all gaming console and computer platforms 5. User friendly: application must searchable for specific games by platform, age, gender appropriateness, customer reviews, sport (sports-related games). 6. Online order tracking: customers must be able to order the video games, track delivery and return of video games, pay online or via other payment methods (including credit or debit card, check, or school payment systems, or other electronic payment systems). 7. Reviews and ratings: members must be to write reviews of the games they rent. 8. Partnership: web application must be able to track referral to the site from corporate partners and customers, display advertisement, and track customer usage patterns. 9. Security: customers must be provided with secure money processing and transaction system. 10. Web site application must accessible using a standard internet browser. 11. Web site must be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with one hour per week for system maintenance and other periodic maintenance, as appropriate. Summary of Project Deliverables Project management-related deliverables: business case, charter, team contract, scope statement, WBS, schedule, cost baseline, status reports, final project presentation, final project report, lessons-learned report, and any other documents required to manage the project. Product-related deliverables: research reports, design documents, software code, hardware, etc. 1. Survey: a survey will be completed to collect selection titles for procurement, including multi-language and multi-console use 2. Web site design: an initial design of the new web site will include a site map, suggested formats, appropriate graphics, etc. The final design will incorporate comments from customer survey 3. Test plan: a test plan will document the interface between the banking software and express mail software. 4. User form templates: templates will be presented for review prior to installation within the web site. 5. Promotion: a plan for promoting the intranet site will describe various approaches for 6. Project benefit measurement plan: a project benefit plan will measure the financial value of the web site. Project Success Criteria: Our goal is to complete this project within 12 months for no more than $500,000. The project sponsor Lori, the VP of marketing, estimated the benefits are about $1 million the first year after implementation and $2 million the following two years. With 10 percent discount rate the payback is anticipated to occur in year two.
