3. Catalog Description:
Introduces wind turbine technology and examines its environmental impact and feasibility for residential and commercial use. Through lecture and hands-on labs, students gain exposure to various wind turbine technologies and are able to compare various designs for output and performance. A course fee is required.

Research history of and current use of wind turbines both locally and globally.

Explain how basic thermal dynamics affect wind.

Use on-line tools including calculators and wind charts to forecast wind resources.
D.
Take local measurements of wind resources.

Investigate local sites for wind turbines, and list anticipated resources and factors that can affect the available wind resources.
F.
Select various wind turbine designs and compare output and performance.
G.
Create model wind turbines for testing, and use lab equipment to measure the output and load conditions for a selected wind turbine design.
H.
Create electronic circuit to monitor and control the wind turbine.
I.
Organize data, graph results, and report on the wind turbine evaluation.

Create a marketing plan and report based on the evaluation – including costs, environmental impact, and estimated payback.
