Kontrolle 1 A Listening 1 (Strand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria Pupils scoring full marks show clear evidence of performance at Level C. Pupils scoring less than full marks are probably still at the pre-primary stage. Minimum teacher support should be necessary. 2 (Strand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 15 details (5 per speaker). Pupils supplying 12 or more correctly are probably showing evidence of performance at level D. Pupils getting at least 7 details, but less than 12, are performing at level C. B Speaking 1 (Strand – Speaking to convey information) Assessment criteria Pupils who say at least 2 of the items in competent German are showing evidence of performance at Level C. 2 (Strand – Speaking and interacting with others/Listening and reacting to others) Assessment criteria Pupils who can answer appropriately, in reasonably comprehensible German are working within Level C. Pupils who can go beyond the basic responses and initiate new questions and/or develop the conversation are working within Level D. C Reading 1a (Strand – Reading for information and instructions) 1 2 Assessment criteria There are 5 words to match (excluding the example). Pupils correctly matching 4 or 5 are showing evidence of performance at Level C. 1b (Strand – Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 5 numbers to write down (excluding the example). Pupils correctly filling in 4 or 5 are showing evidence of performance at Level C. 2a (Strand – Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 5 classroom commands (excluding the example). Pupils correctly identifying 4 or 5 are probably showing evidence of performance at Level C. 2b (Strand – Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 5 pairs of sentences (excluding the example). Pupils correctly matching 4 or 5 are probably showing evidence of performance at level C. D Writing 1 (Strand – Writing to exchange information and ideas) Assessment criteria Pupils who copy the months and days more or less correctly are showing evidence of performance at Level C. 2 (Strand – Writing to exchange information and ideas) Assessment criteria Pupils who complete 4 or 5 of the gaps with appropriate words, which may be understood despite spelling mistakes, show some evidence of performance at Level C. The second part of the task allows pupils the scope to perform at Level D or even Level E, depending on length, accuracy and range of expression. Pupils correctly ordering the pictures and filling in at least 4 times under the right subjects are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 5 correct answers (excluding the example). Pupils correctly choosing 4 or 5 are showing evidence of performance at Level C. B Speaking 1 (Strand - Speaking and interacting with others/Listening and reacting to others) Assessment criteria Pupils who are able to identify correctly, in German, 7 or more of the chosen pictures with approximate pronunciation are showing evidence of performance at Level C. Pupils who try to give longer answers to the questions with a set phrase, as in the example, are showing evidence of performance at Level D. Pupils who sometimes go on to give opinions are showing evidence of performance at Level E. 2 (Strand - Speaking and interacting with others/Listening and reacting to others) Assessment criteria Pupils who correctly use the question prompts and who give short, simple, correct answers in comprehensible German to most of the questions, are showing evidence of performance at Level D. Pupils whose questions and answers are less hesitant and slightly longer and more complex, including giving opinions, are showing evidence of performance at Level E. C Reading 1 (Strand – Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 10 sentences. D Writing 1 (Strand – Writing to exchange information and ideas) Assessment criteria Pupils correctly using 7 or more items are showing evidence of performance at Level C. Pupils who write 7 or more items with approximate spelling from memory are showing evidence of performance at level D. 2 (Strand – Writing to exchange information and ideas) Assessment criteria Pupils who label at least 7 items correctly but with approximate spelling are showing evidence of performance at Level D. Pupils who write 2 or 3 phrases or sentences from memory on each picture (perhaps including colours, a verb and opinions) with readily comprehensible spelling are showing evidence of performance at Level E. 4 5 KAPITEL 3: Meine Familie Kontrolle 3 A Listening 1 (Strand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 10 correct answers. Pupils correctly ticking 7 or more are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Stand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria Pupils correctly identifying 7 or more sentences as false or true are showing evidence of performance at Level E. B Speaking 1 (Strand – Speaking and interacting with others/Listening and reacting to others) Assessment criteria Pupils who give appropriate largely single-word answers to at least 3 of the questions, are showing evidence of performance at Level C. Pupils who give longer answers with a verb (e.g. ich habe, er heiβt) are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand – Speaking to convey information) Assessment criteria Pupils who give short, simple talks, perhaps with prompting and questioning from the teacher, are showing evidence of performance at Level C. Pupils who are less hesitant and give slightly longer, more complex talks, with little or no prompting are showing evidence of performance at Level D or E. C Reading 1 (Strand – Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 10 sentences to categorise (excluding the example). Pupils correctly categorising 7 or more are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 5 6 2 (Strand – Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria Pupils who find the three correct statements demonstrate clearly that they are working within Level D. D Writing 1 (Strands – Writing to exchange information and ideas) Assessment criteria There are 5 words to choose for a. Pupils correctly choosing and copying 3 or more are showing evidence of performance at Level C. In b. pupils who write at least 2 short phrases, perhaps changing one word, with approximate spelling from memory are showing evidence of performance at Level C. 2 (Strands – Writing to exchange information and ideas) Assessment criteria Pupils who copy down most of the prompt words and add just one or two extra words from memory (e.g. vier Jahre, braune Augen) with approximate spelling are showing evidence of performance at Level C. Pupils who write some short phrases or sentences on each picture with readily comprehensible spelling are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 6 7 KAPITEL 4: Freizeit Kontrolle 4 A Listening 1 (Strand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 4 corrections to be made in a. and 6 details to be supplied in b. giving a total of 10 details. Pupils correctly noting 7 or more are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 10 details to be supplied (including one to be left blank). Pupils correctly noting 7 or more are showing evidence of performance at Level E. B Speaking 1 (Strand - Speaking and interacting with others/Listening and reacting to others) Assessment criteria Pupils who give short (one or two word) answers to the question for at least 2 of the symbols, in comprehensible German (e.g. Computer, Rad, Musik) are showing evidence of performance at Level C. Puils who can answer more fully (e.g. ich spiele am Computer; ich fahre Rad; ich höre Musik) are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand – Speaking to convey information) Assessment criteria Pupils who can describe at least one of the people shown, using short phrases and mainly memorised language, are showing evidence of performance at Level D. Pupils whose talk covers more than one person and who use the third person singular appropriately and generally correctly, with fairly accurate pronunciation, are showing evidence of performance at Level E. C Reading 1a (Strand - Reading for information and instructions) Pupils read the extracts and decide which leisure-time activities the writer doesn’t like. 7 8 1b (Strand - Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria For a. there are 5 pictures to be crossed out, and for b. 5 questions to identify. Pupils who get 7 or more correct answers are showing evidence of performance at Level E. Pupils copying the questions correctly are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand - Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 10 sentences. Pupils answering correctly 7 or more are showing evidence of performance at Level D. D Writing 1 (Strand – Writing to exchange information and ideas) Assessment criteria Pupils who copy and complete sentences correctly for a. and b. are showing evidence of performance at Level C. Pupils who write at least 3 sentences for each part of the task, unaided in readily comprehensible German, are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand – Writing imaginatively/to entertain) Assessment criteria Pupils who write short paragraphs based on the pictures, including some expressions of opinion, in readily comprehensible German, are showing evidence of performance at Level D. Pupils who write a further 2 sentences to replace the question marks, drawing on memorised language and/or adapting the model given in the example, are showing evidence of performance at Level E. 8 9 KAPITEL 5: Zu Hause Kontrolle 5 A Listening 1 (Strand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria Pupils correctly answering 7 or more are showing evidence of performance at Level E. 2 (Strand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 5 pictures to tick. Pupils who try to give longer descriptions with short set phrases and perhaps an opinion or two, are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand – Speaking to convey information) Assessment criteria This task covers all levels and for descriptions of expected performance at each level, teachers should refer to the document, Modern Languages, 5-14 National Guidelines. C Reading 1 (Strand - Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria Pupils who can correctly identify 7 or more are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand - Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 9 details. Pupils correctly noting 7 or more are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 5 places and 7 details to be noted. Pupils writing 8 or more correct items overall are showing evidence of performance at Level D. B Speaking 1 (Strand - Speaking and interacting with others/Listening and reacting to others) Assessment criteria Pupils who speak appropriately in comprehensible German, using verbal prompts, are showing some evidence of performance at Level C. Pupils who perform the role-plays without the verbal prompts are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand – Speaking to convey information) Assessment criteria This task covers all levels. Foe detailed descriptions of expected performance at each level. Teachers should refer to the document, Modern Languages, 5-14 National Guidelines. C Reading 1 (Strand - Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 10 answers. Pupils correctly answering 7 or more are showing evidence of performance at Level D 2 (Strand - Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 12 answers. Pupils correctly answering 9 or more are showing evidence of performance at Level E. 11 12 D Writing 1 (Strand – Writing to exchange information and ideas) Assessment criteria Pupils who choose the correct word in at least 7 cases and who copy it correctly, are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand – Writing to exchange information and ideas) Assessment criteria Pupils who complete at least 5 of the sentences and who also attempt one of their own are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 3 (Strand – Writing imaginatively/to entertain) Assessment criteria Pupils who write accurate German and who go beyond set phrases are working within Level E. Pupils who stick to simpler German but who reproduce it comprehensibly are probably working within Level D. 12 13 Kontrolle 7 A Listening 1 (Strand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria There are 10 items. Numbers 1-5 are slightly shorter and pupils who get 3 or more of these correct are showing evidence of performance at Level C. Pupils who get 7 or more correct answers overall are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand – Listening for information and instructions) Assessment criteria Pupils getting above 10 answers are showing evidence of performance at Level E. B Speaking 1 (Strand – Speaking to convey information) Assessment criteria a Pupils who can identify in comprehensible German at least 4 items, are showing evidence of performance at Level C. b Pupils who go on to provide some detail about 4 of the items they have identified are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 2 (Strand - Speaking and interacting with others/Listening and reacting to others) Assessment criteria This task covers all levels, depending on fluency, accuracy, pronunciation, etc. For descriptions of expected performance at different levels, teachers should refer to the document, Modern Languages, 5-14 National Guidelines. C Reading 1a (Strand - Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria Pupils who get 4 or 5 answers correct are showing evidence of performance at Level C. 1b (Strand - Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria Pupils who get 7 or more answers correct are showing evidence of performance at Level D. 13 14 2 (Strand - Reading for information and instructions) Assessment criteria Pupils answering 8 or more correctly are showing evidence of performance at Level E. D Writing 1 (Strand – Writing to exchange information and ideas) Assessment criteria Pupils copying and completing 6 sentences comprehensibly are showing evidence of performance at Level C. 2 (Strand – Writing imaginatively/to entertain) Assessment criteria a. Pupils giving at least 3 answers in comprehensible and reasonably correct German are showing evidence of performance at Level D. b. This task allows more able pupils the possibility of performing at Level E, depending on the accuracy and variety of language.
