Self Portrait 5th Grade Lesson Andy Warhol inspired self portrait Description Students analyze various portraits by Andy Warhol and discuss their observations with their peers. They compare Warhol’s art to other Pop artists they have studied. Then they review how to use anatomy and math concepts to draw portraits and they apply those concepts to their self portrait. http://www.alifetimeofcolor.com/main.taf?p=2,1,1,5 They revisit Warhol’s portraits and describe his color choices and experiment with various colors as they paint. Once again they analyze Warhol’s prints and the embellishments he added to his portraits. Finally the students use oil pastels to add their embellishments. Warhol made the Campbell Soup cans and created colored silk screens of luminaries such as Marilyn Monroe and Mao Zedong. He worked in a New York loft called the Factory where he collaborated with other artists such as director Paul Morrissey and the rock bands. Famous for his prediction, “In the future everyone will be famous for 15 minutes,” Warhol's fame continues. Nose line- horizontal line that students draw half way between the eyes and the chin for the proper placement of the nose and the bottom of the ears Lip line- horizontal line that the students draw half way between the bottom of the nose and the chin for the proper placement of the lips
