Technology Integrated Lesson Plan Title: Oceanography Summary: Students will access one or more pre-selected web sites and compare the earth’s oceans. Name: Janet Greeley Suggested level: 5 Pennsylvania Academic Standard(s): 3.6.4 –D, Recognize the earth’s different water resources. Know that approximately three-fourths of the earth is covered by water. Identify and describe types of fresh and salt-water bodies. Learning objective(s): To Teach Students: 1. Identify Names and locations of the four oceans. 2. Find important facts about their particular ocean. 3. Learn how to make “fast facts” on 5” x 7” index cards. Materials required: PC with Internet – 5x7 index cards – Word Search – Grolier’s encyclopedia Approximate number of class periods: 2 Classroom management strategies: (individual, small group, large group – explain) Students will work in small groups Warm up: Brief overview of the Internet & a small presentation on some background knowledge of the 4 oceans and Oceanography Activities/ Procedures: Students will be asked to access one of the three pre-selected web sites to find important facts about their assigned ocean, including its location size, depths, climate, and average temperature. Assessment strategies: Teacher will observe students on Internet. Assess knowledge of concepts learned by providing students with a Word Search Puzzle on the various facts and concepts learned in class concerning the oceans.
