This term in History the students in 3-4K have investigated the stories of the convicts on the First Fleet in order to gain a better understanding of the first European settlement in Australia.
The students learned about the story, journey and arrival of the First Fleet. They searched, extracted and used information from a variety of sources and retold the personal stories in the form of a letter.
Seanna Jack Lachlan
Seanna, Jack and Lachlan have used adjectives to describe the conditions at the Old Bailey in London, on the First Fleet’s voyage and at Sydney Cove. They have also used affectionate greetings as would have been common at the time.
Antony Paris
Antony, Paris and Kirbi have reflected their understanding of the tone and mood of convict times through the use of dark colours, strong lines and the facial expressions of the convicts.
Kirbi
Novels for sharing with the whole class are carefully and strategically selected. Recently we finished reading another amazing novel
“The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane”.
This book provided each student with the opportunity to identify the personal qualities of the main character and think about how and why he changed throughout the story. Deep thinking was required to discuss and reflect on the underlying message for the reader.
