Look Alive 2 Resource Pack
For 7 – 11 years, this builds on basic knowledge and understanding of the road environment enabling
children to estimate risks in order to make safer decisions, (produced by Cornwall County Council
1994).
Just the Journey Resource Pack
Contains different scenarios on cycling safety, wearing bright clothes, safety within a car and
pedestrian safety with Junior Road Safety Officers. Downloadable worksheets are available to print off
from the DVD.
Street Seen
24 colour photographs and a comprehensive teacher’s guide designed to raise issues and encourage
discussion about road safety, (produced by RoSPA 2003).
Arrive Alive Poster Pack
The children’s highway code presented in poster form. A colourful and informative way to get key
road safety issues across from walking to skateboarding. Good for literacy work on informative texts,
(produced by DfT).
Road Scene Poster Pack
Four large posters showing different road scenes. Each is set ina different season to encourage
discussion about the various issues which arise during the changing seasons.
Safer Routes – CD
This CD has a set of virtual tools that can be used to plan a safer route to school. Features include
design tools, games and information that will give users the understanding they need to plan a route in
the safest possible way.
Cycling – CD
This CD aims to give children an insight into the issues surrounding safe cycling, for example route
planning and bicycle use.
Step-up Geography Non-fiction Books
Should the high street be closed to traffic?
This book shows how to investigate the issue of traffic in your high street and encourages discussions
relating to road safety, (produced by Julia Roche 2005).
Local Traffic – An Environmental Issue
Covers issues involves in building new roads and shows children how to collect data and come to
considered decisions in a democratic way, (produced by Julia Roche 2005).
Rural Road Safety: A Resource for KS1 and 2
Presents road safety messages with a rural emphasis through curriculum matched activities in English,
Maths, Geography PSHE and ICT, (produced by RoSPA 2005).
Let’s Be Safe Out and About – Big Book and Readers
The story follows a brother and sister on their trip to the park focusing on road safety issues that
occur along the way, (produced by Lancashire County Council 2000).
Four in a Row – Big Book and Readers
Raises awareness about the dangers on the road through text written in a range of styles, including
newspaper reports and magazine articles, (produced by Sandwell MBC 2000).
Demonstration Bicycle Helmet
A small expanded polystyrene bicycle helmet which can be used with an egg to demonstrate to pupils
why it is important to always wear a bicycle helmet.
Road sign flash cards
A set of A5 cards showing road signs with definitions on the back.
Reflective pack
Contains reflective armbands, a cycle arm reflector, a Sam Browne belt, and strips and stickers to help
illustrate the value of wearing reflective items in the dark.
Pedestrian Skills DVD
This resource is designed to help children between four and eleven develop road safety skills, from
basic introductions to more complex topics covered in a step by step approach, progressing in a
logical way by age and ability.
Tales of the Road Campaign - DVD
Adverts aimed at pupils aged between six and 11 years olds, including
“The Boy who didn’t Stop, Look and Listen”
“The Girl who didn’t Dress Bright in the Dark”
“The Boy who didn’t look for a Safe Place to Cross”.
The Right Way or No Way
Aimed specifically at children in years 5, 6 and 7 (9 – 12 years) “The Right Way or No Way” covers a
range of different roads and depicts ‘real life’ scenarios that have been identified as posing the most risk to
children who are accessing the high-speed road network, (produced by the Highways Agency).
