The MFA in Physical heater combines the study of movement/dance, Italian language,
voice, and music with the study of circus arts, the techniques of commedia dell’arte.
Courses are offered primarily on the Arezzo campus, with modules also offered in Torino
and Berlin. Taking full advantage of its European setting, MUW and the Accademia have
designed a program that brings together some of the most exciting and innovative artists
and approaches to physical theatre currently available in Europe. While rooted in the
spirit of the commedia dell’arte and the ethos of the actor-as-creator, the program fully
prepares students to devise and create their own ensemble performances. (See
222.dellarte.it or visit Accademia dell’Arte on Facebook.)
Scholarships: Scholarships through MUW and assistantships through ADA are available in limited
amounts.
History:
IN November of 2007 the Institutes of Higher Learning of the State of Mississippi
approved the MFA in Physical Theatre to be offered by Mississippi University for Women
(Columbus, MS) in conjunction with Accademia dell’Arte in Arezzo, Italy. MUW was
founded in 1884 and was the first public college for women in the nation. In 1982 MUW
began a new tradition: admitting men.
Facilities:
The core of the MFA training program will take place at the Accademia in Arezzo in the
beautiful Villa Godiola. Arezzo is an ideal location in Italy that enables students to
immerse themselves in the genuine culture of Italy undamaged by excessive tourism.
The central location of Arezzo also allows students to easily explore other cultural centers
of Italy: Rome, Florence, Siena, Bologna, Perugia, etc. The Facilities include multiple
classrooms, two on-site studios, computer lab, library, beautiful gardens, and a full time
administrative staff to assist students year around.

The MFA in Acting is an intensive three year professional training program for students
who want to become professional actors. Catholic is an historic program and we recruit a
class of no more than 10 actors once every three years. Recent grads have worked on
Broadway, the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, the Shakespeare Theatre in DC and many
other theatres as well as in TV and film.
Scholarships: Every student admitted to the graduate program receives assistance in the form of a
scholarship. We offer both half and full scholarships.
History:
The graduate acting program at Catholic is an historic program conceived by Father
Hartke in the 1930’s. During Hartke’s tenure CUA shows routinely traveled to Broadway
and the program has graduated many famous including Susan Sarandon, Jon Voight,
and Phil Bosco. In 2006 the program was overhauled and the decision was made to bring
in one class every three years so that the faculty could fully devote themselves to these
actors for the full three years of their training.
Facilities:
CUA has three theatres – 1 small blackbox which seats 50, a medium size blackbox
which seats 100 and a much larger, off-Broadway size house which seats 500.

Our full-time two-year professional training program for film and television performance
prepares you for a career by attacking the business from 360 degrees. It gives you the
skills, knowledge and real-world experience all thriving actors must have. Everything
starts, of course, with the pure artistry of acting. So the curriculum is grounded in the
Meisner technique, pioneered by American master Sanford Meisner. Learning is
experiential, so you do the real work of acting every day, in every class. We teach you to
build on the strong instincts we first saw in your audition. You learn to take risks. And you
continually expand your skills as you learn the intricacies of acting on camera. A hallmark
of the program is the one-on-one attention, instant feedback and guidance you get from
faculty.
Scholarships: Our National Scholarship Audition Tour typically awards over $1,000,000 in scholarships
per school year. NYCDA scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and may
reflect artistic promise and demonstrated financial need. The Sanford Meisner Merit
Award is based upon talent demonstrated in your audition and can be renewed if the
student is invited to return for the second year and has maintained a minimum GPA of
3.0. The May Doyle Memorial Scholarship is based upon financial need and talent
demonstrated at the audition. It ranges from a minimum of $500 to a maximum of
$10,000 for the academic year.
History:
Every year we at NYCDA audition over 5,000 aspiring actors to create a new class of just
180 students. Those select few get the opportunity to experience the most demanding,
comprehensive and rewarding educational training for today's aspiring actor. While
industry insiders have long recognized NYCDA as the premier film and television training
ground in the country, acting experience is not a prerequisite for admission. What all our
students do have is that rate combination of traits that simply cannot be taught: instinctive
acting talent and an insatiable drive to succeed. We invite you to discover a blend of
advantages unmatched anywhere in the world.
Facilities:
For a young, enthusiastic actor dreaming of a future in lights, the NYCDA location is at
the center of it all. Around the corner from the landmark Flatiron Building and three blocks
from artsy Union Square, our home is nestled in the heart of Manhattan's historic
Chelsea district. It's a vivacious neighborhood brimming with activities, including an
eclectic range of restaurants, bookstores from mammoth to quaint, inviting coffee shops
and boutiques, intimate theatres, a number of churches and, of course, shopping for
anything and everything. Subways and bus lines dart beneath and through to spirit you
virtually anywhere in the city in minutes-and your options are endless. From the world's
greatest museums and world class sports teams uptown to the Broadway stage and
network TV studios in Midtown to the cultural opportunities of Little Italy, Chinatown and
all the diverse neighborhoods of Lower Manhattan. The world's most spectacular campus
is at your feet.

History:
The West Virginia University Division of Theatre and Dance resides in the Creative Arts
Center which is home to the College of Creative Arts and includes the Division of Art &
Design and the Division of Music. While each of these divisions have been established
for much of the 125 plus years of the University’s existence under various administrative
structures it was only in 1968 that they were brought together as a performing and visual
arts unit. On March 2, 1982 the academic units of the Creative Arts Center were
recognized as the College of Creative Arts. The degree programs in the Division of
Theatre and Dance are fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre
(NAST) and were reaccredited in 2006.
Facilities:
The Division annually produces five to eight theatrical works in one of three recently
renovated performance areas: The Davis Theatre (212 seat thrust), The Michael
Laboratory Theatre (70 seat black box), and the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre (1,400
seat proscenium). The Division also produces in the Antoinette Falbo Theatre and the
historic Metropolitan Theatre located downtown. These productions provide practical
experience for our theatre students and serve the community audience a balance of
classical, modern, and contemporary theatre. Our facilities also include ample shop and
lab space, a computer design lab, offices for the graduate students, and renovated
spaces.
