The Art in Street Art When I think of street art many things come to mind. Not only do I think of graffiti but also anything from: chalk art, sticker bombing, stencil graffiti and so much more. This type of art scene is just an artists’ means of communication and expression of self. For an artist to do their job they must present their work of art by any means necessary, whether it is in an art gallery or the streets. Most people choose the streets to present their work have much more criticism from society and not only people who study art. This type of criticism is not always good feedback but it is still exposure that every artist needs for their particular expertise. Chalk art: is a 3D from of art done on the street, where the art literally moves you. Personally this type of art is quite amazing to me simply because of how much work and creativity goes into one piece alone. Like in the image on the left, the art work makes your own imagination run wild! Sticker art: is just as the name suggests. Stickers can be placed just about anywhere and on anything that a sticker can stick on. Personally, I prefer stickers that are artful and meaningful to other stickers that don’t make sense but are official warnings of our society. Stencil Graffiti: makes use of a paper, cardboard, or other media to create an image or text that is easily reproducible. The desired design is cut out of the selected medium and then the image is transferred to a surface through the use of spray paint or roll-on paint. As I’ve researched my topic on whether street art is art or just vandalism and I can only really give my opinion. I cannot change anyone’s opinion but I street art is an art form. Most would say that tagging or just pointless spraying of a gang related name or hate for another gang, and I would have to agree. That is not art, not even a little bit. Street art is something that the world can admire because people whether from the art scene or not take pictures and will post them on the web, and as we all know that once a person shoots it the whole world sees it. The art scene belongs to the world simply because it can be found in any city, known or unknown. All I can say is that street art is like music. Not everyone will like every genre of music that comes and goes; just like not everyone will think street art is art, but there are those that will think otherwise. Street art is just beautification of streets that aren’t appealing to the city no more. The art isn’t hurting anyone it is only bringing others to stop and admire these areas for their amazing works of art. Street art will always be art to me, no matter what others say!
