Banksy is a UK based graffiti artist, firm director,
political activist and also a painter. His art work
combines dark humour with graffiti, which were
presented in form of political and social
commentary on street walls, of cities throughout the
world. He kept his identity hidden, and used a quick
stencil technique to make his art and disappear
from the scene. Banksy was inspired by the 3D
form and used it as inspiration. He mocked the
government over the labelling of graffiti as
vandalism.

Shepard Fairey
Is an American
contemporary street
artist, graphic designer
activist and illustrator
who emerged from the
skateboarding scene.
His graphic work is a
combination of
stencilling, screen
painting and collage.
Fairey has often been
accused of
plagiarizing other artists’
work. His most famous
work includes Obey
1992 and Hope 2008.
Fairey went on to create
bigger and more risky
art work which made
him get his numerous
criminal records, but his
continuous passion for
work bought him to light
when he got the chance
to work with Barack
Obama.
Blek le Rat is described as ‘the father of stencil graffiti’, and has
been a massive influence in today’s graffiti art movements. His
stencil style was inventive and very different which can be seen in
the work of artists like Banksy, his work in Paris established a style
of Urban art that quickly spread through Europe and to the United
States. His most famous work of art was the rat stencil, which he
started in the hope to create an invasion of rats in the city.
The CND symbol, was
designed by Gerald Holtom in
1958. And is one of the most
widely known symbols in the
world, and anyone can use it
without permission as it has not
been given a copy right
status. The symbol is still used
by peace activists today.
Pusst Riot
Is a
Russian feminist punk rock protest
group based in Moscow, the group was founded
in 2011 and has
approximately 11 members (women).
They produce and
release videos, they wear bright
coloured dresses and tights,
and have their faces masked
by balaclavas, whilst
performing and also when
giving
interviews. 3 Band
members have been
arrested following
charges.
Che Guevara
Che Guevara Was
an Argentinean Marxist revolutionist, author, and military theorist.
He is known as the major figure of the
Cuban revolution and his styled picture has
become a counter cultural symbol of
global insignia in popular culture,
which can be seen on posters,
walls, T-shirts and numerous
things. He was executed
by the Bolivian army in
1967.
