Largest 100 Credit Unions / Caisses Populaires
As of fourth quarter 2014, the 350 credit unions and caisses populaires outside of Quebec reported combined
assets of over $180 billion, a six-month increase of 3.1 per cent over second quarter 2014.
The largest 100 credit unions and caisses populaires reported a slightly higher asset growth rate than the entire
system. At fourth quarter 2014, the largest 100 credit unions recorded a six-month gain of 3.4 per cent, with
assets reaching over $157.5 billion. Amalgamations throughout the credit union system continue to increase this
group’s proportion of system assets. The top 100 credit unions now account for 87.4 per cent of total system
assets in the country (excluding Quebec).
The appearance of the largest 10 credit unions remained unchanged as all 10 credit unions retained their position
from six months ago. With a 2.6 per cent increase in 6-month growth, these 10 credit unions maintained their
share of the system assets at just under 46 per cent. The largest 10 credit unions had combined assets of $82.1
billion – an increase of almost $2.1 billion from the
