Spelling Bee Rules:
Words will be taken from a jar randomly, read and then placed into another jar.
 The teacher will give the word to be spelled. She will speak slowly and clearly.
 The speller will listen carefully to the teacher and can ask for the word to be
repeated or used in a sentence if necessary.
 When the speller is sure they understands the word, they pronounce it, spell it
and then says the word again. They must say it loudly enough for the judges to
hear it.
 The speller may say excuse me if he/she makes a mistake: however this must be
said before the speller completes the word.
 The teacher and the judges determine whether or not the word was spelled
correctly.
 If the correct spelling was given, the speller remains in the contest.
 If the spelling was incorrect, that speller is eliminated from the contest. The
teacher gives the correct spelling of that word. Then the teacher reads a new
word to the next student.
 Children being eliminated will sit in the order in which they are being
eliminated.
 When there are only three spellers left, they will continue to spell the words
given. Then they will declare the champions.
 The order of the children that have already lost are given 2nd and 3rd place.
 *For Grade One Only* children are safe in the first round and then after that can
be eliminated.
In the first rounds children will: (Basic English only)
- be reading the letters of the alphabet from cards,
- be spelling the words from flash card
-be spelling the words without flash cards
