The contest shall be participated by 4 clusters. Each cluster must have three (3) participants. Wearing of school uniform is advised. 2. During the contest proper the following materials provided by each cluster will be used: A board (provided by each cluster) Writing material (chalk) Eraser (tissue) 3. The questions will be from General Information, Social Science, Natural Science, Language and Mathematics. Type of questions will be multiple choice and identification. 4. There will be three (3) components in the competition namely: Elimination Round, SemiFinal Round and the Final Round. 5. The elimination round has seven (7) questions worth 2 points, the semi-final round has nine (9) questions worth 3 points and in the final round has seven (7) questions worth 5 points. 6. In the elimination round, only the top six (6) groups will qualify to the next (semi-final) round. 7. At the end of semi-final round, only the top three (3) groups will move to the final round. In case of a tie, a clincher round will follow. 8. The contestants should be at the place of competition ten (10) minutes before the scheduled time. The time and place will be announced prior to the start of the contest during the morning program. 9. Late contestants are still allowed to participate however they will be deprived to answer the question(s) missed. But after the first five (5) questions have lapsed, late contestants will be disqualified. 10. Clarifications regarding the rules of competition shall be entertained by the committee before the start of the contest. 11. Each question will be read twice. After the second reading, the quizmaster shall say “go”, only then the groups will be allowed to write their answers. The time allotment is 10 seconds for regular questions and 20 seconds for math questions. Automatically, the time limit begins with the word “go” of the quizmaster. 12. After the time limit, a buzzer sound will be heard which signals that the contestants must stop writing and must raise their boards immediately. Failure to do so will signal a warning for the first offense and disqualification for the second. 13. Coaching from the audiences is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. 14. The committee and the judges have the right to disqualify any contestant who will violate the rules of the contest. 15. The winners will be declared as: 2nd Place, 1st Place and Quiz Bee Champion and will receive a Certificate of Recognition. 16. The decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable. Each cluster will have one participant. The contestant shall be in his/her school uniform. 2. There will be three sub rounds: Easy (1 point), Average (2 Points), Difficult (3 points). 3. There will be 10 words to be given for each sub round by the bee master. 4. Contestants will draw a word from an envelope. The bee master will pronounce each word twice and give aid to word identification. 5. The contestants should be at the place of competition ten (10) minutes before the scheduled time. The time and place will be announced prior to the start of the contest during the morning program. 6. Students are encouraged to face the judges when pronouncing and spelling a word and make an effort to utter each letter distinctly and with sufficient volume to be understood by the judges. If the speller utters unintelligible or nonsense sounds, the word is considered misspelled. 7. After the pronouncer gives the speller a word, the speller is encouraged to pronounce the word before spelling it and after spelling it. The judges will not disqualify a speller for failing to pronounce the word either before or after spelling it. 8. The speller may request for a definition, sentence, part of speech, language of origin, alternate pronunciation, or for a word to be pronounced again. The pronouncer will grant all such requests until the judges agree the word has been made reasonably clear to the contestant. The pronouncer does not answer root word questions, requests for alternate definitions, or requests for a slower pronunciation. The speller may not question the pronouncer's pronunciation. The judges may disqualify any speller who ignores a request to start spelling. 9. The judges uphold the rules and determine whether or not words are spelled correctly. They also render final decisions on appeals. Their decision is final on all questions. 10. Having started to spell a word, a speller may stop and start over, retracing the spelling from the beginning, but in retracing there can be no change of letters or their sequences are changed in the respelling. If letters or their sequences are changed in the respelling, the word is considered misspelled. 11. Upon missing the spelling of a word, the speller will remain in his/her seat on the stage until the round is complete. The next word on the pronouncer's list is given to the next speller. 12. If none of the spellers remaining in the Spelling Bee at the start of a round spells a word correctly during the round, all spellers shall remain in the competition. 13. If only one of the spellers remaining in the Spelling Bee at the start of a round spells a word correctly during that round, a new round will begin and the speller shall be given the next word on the list to spell. If the speller succeeds in correctly spelling the word, the speller shall be declared the champion. Otherwise, all the spellers remaining in the competition at the start of the previous round shall remain in the competition. A new round will begin, with all of the spellers in their original order. Under no circumstances will any contestant be asked to correct the misspelling of another speller. 14. Contestant that has the most correct answers after the three rounds will be declared as the Spelling Bee Champion and will receive a Certificate of Recognition. 15. No. (063) – 388 – 7213/ (063) 227-8004 HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT POSTER MAKING CONTEST MECHANICS 1. There shall be one participant per cluster. Contestants are required to wear their school uniform and ID. 2. Participants will be given 2 hours only to finish their works. 3. Each participant should submit ONE entry only. 4. The contestants should be at the place of competition ten (10) minutes before the scheduled time. The time and place will be announced prior to the start of the contest during the morning program. 5. The poster must illustrate, interpret and emphasize the theme of the Intramurals 2023 Celebration – “Upholding Unity and Amity through Academic and Sports”. 6. The following materials to be provided by each cluster will be used in the contest: A ¼ illustration board (white background & vertical format; ) Mongol pencil Coloring material: oil pastel/craypas, markers, ink, mixed media, oil, acrylic and watercolor Pentel Pen *Bringing other necessary materials is allowed such as erasers, sharpeners, rulers, etc. 7. Posters must be done in free hand. 8. The artist will be held accountable to any issues that may arise with regards to the originality and authenticity of the design. 9. The top three (3) posters will shall be awarded as 1st Place, and 2nd Place and 3rd Place and will receive a Certificate of Recognition. 10. Contestants are required to wear their school uniform and ID. 2. Contestants will draw a topic from an envelope during the contest and shall deliver a 3-minute speech after a 2-minute preparation. Hand signals will be provided at the 3-, and 1-minute marks as well as at the 30-second and final 10second marks. 3. The contestants should be at the place of competition ten (10) minutes before the scheduled time. The time and place will be announced prior to the start of the contest during the morning program. 4. Time frames and limits shall be strictly observed during the competition. Hence, deductions of points (2 points per 10 seconds) shall be given to student speakers who exceed the delivery time. 5. Upon submission of the results to the committee, judges’ decision shall be considered final and irrevocable. 6. Only three (3) student speakers shall be awarded as Champion, 1st RunnerUp, and 2nd Runner-Up and will receive a Certificate of Recognition. 7. The winners will be chosen by the following criteria: Presentation (40%). The student speaker has a good volume of speech, proper pronunciation, enunciation, and nonverbal cues, and appears comfortable. Content (40%). The speech is logical, has a clear thesis, and presented in a cohesive manner. Audience Response (20%). The speech is delivered with effectiveness and persuasiveness evident in the response of the audience.
