Speaking of clubrooms, I want to take this opportunity to thank one of our members who has generously offered to mow the grass around the building each week and that is Jeff VK2XD. We have had other members in the past do this, and I extend my thanks to them as well but to take it on as a regular commitment is worthy of note. Thanks also to Alan & Mike for putting together the mower and again to Alan for donating an edger. I am sure you will all agree that the rooms will look better. On a personal note you may be interested to know we are slowly getting back to normal after our flooding in mid October. Carpet and lino finally went in a fortnight ago and the house is almost back to normal. It is really nice to be walking on carpet again having only had concrete for the past three months. The shack is empty with its contents distributed between the back verandah and the laundry. This had to be done so that lino could be laid. And whilst most everything was out, it was an opportunity to redesign and to freshen up the paint. I do miss not having the shack to go to at the moment but soon it should start to return to normal. Of course our misfortune was nothing like that of the people of Queensland and more recently in Victoria but I can sympathise as I am sure all of you can with their plight. I am not sure I could have faced the additional burden of having to throw out everything and strip the gyprock off the walls as well. That must have been heart breaking. For us it has only been just three months and we are all but back to normal, but I can see that for many of those people this flooding episode will take years to recover from and of course the flooding pales into insignificance when you add in the loss of life. It great to see that selfless Aussie spirit come out when volunteers were needed to help clean up. Make’s you feel really good about the place doesn’t it! And hope you all had a great Australia Day. Enough from me for this month – look forward to seeing you all again on Friday night. 73 de vk2yw President’s Report Members, Hello again and Happy New Year. 2011 is well and truly underway with our first meeting due at the end of the month…in fact on Friday evening. There isn’t a lot to report for this first meeting and, other than discussing plans for the John Moyle Field Day, there is little else on the horizon. We are still waiting to set a date for the working bee for Mt Bethungra but that is still dependent on a number of factors. I can however report that Council will indeed hit us for the rent increase in 2011 and that increase is likely to be more than three times what we are paying now. When that occurs we will need to look closely at our rental charges with the view to pass on the increase. It has now been some years since we last reviewed the rent. The other big matter from last year was the Lands Department fiasco. Again, as I write this there is nothing further to report. As I understand it we are still awaiting a response to Mike’s most recent letter. Clubrooms wise we have a new cleaning roster which has been published on the club website and I will try to have a copy for the meeting so you can see when you are on. Other outstanding work for 2011 will be to finish INSIDE THIS ISSUE 1 President’s Report 2 This Day in History – 28th January 2 Centre Victoria RadioFest No.4 2 GB100D – Special Event Callsign 3 CCARC Field Day - Wyong January 2011 1 This Day in History “Linked” Repeaters, their Call Signs and Frequencies: Bethungra MIA Galore Tumut Wagga VK2RBE VK2RGF VK2RGA VK2RTD VK2RWG Friday, January 28, 2011 146.775 146.850 146.875 146.800 146.750 1802 – Matthew Flinders discovers and names Fowlers Bay in South Australia. 1807 – The first public street lighting with gas takes place in Pall Mall, London. 1986 – The Space Shuttle ‘Challenger’ explodes, killing seven. 2004 – A decomposing sperm whale explodes on the streets of Taiwan. 2007 – Harry Melbourne, creator of the Freddo Frog, dies at age 94. Centre Victoria RadioFest No.4 Bubba and Earl, two really dumb redneck Hams from Kentucky, were in a local Wal-Mart store looking for Ham gear. Upon not finding any, they decided to look around a bit. They stumbled upon a weekly charity raffle. This major amateur radio event in Victoria will be at the Kyneton Racecourse, only an hour from Melbourne, Ballarat and Bendigo, on Sunday 13 February 2011. Entry tickets go on sale from 9am and the dates open at They bought five tickets each at a dollar a pop. The following week, when the raffle was drawn, each learned that he had won a prize. Earl won 1st place, a year's supply of gourmet spaghetti sauce and extra-long spaghetti. Bubba won 6th prize, a toilet brush. 10am. A talk-in from RadioFest is available through the Mt Macedon 2m repeater VK3RMM 147.250MHz from 9am to 10.30am on the day. About a week or so had passed and the men met back at Wal-Mart, again, looking for Ham Radio goodies. Bubba asked Earl how he liked his prize, to which Earl replied, "Great, I love spaghetti, but it sure is hard to solder and keep up in the air!" Earl asked Bubba, "How about you? How's the toilet brush?" "Not so good," replied Bubba. "I reckon I'm gonna go back to paper." DADARS oldest radio club in the world celebrates their centenary.
