Vincent van Gogh’s brother Theo used to
give him money to buy his paints. Theo
was one of the few people who realized that
Vincent’s pictures were very special.
As if the brushstrokes were alive!
Vincent van Gogh was born in 1857 in the
Netherlands. He was already 27 years old when
he decided to become an artist. Today he is
one of the most famous modern painters in
the world. During his lifetime he would never
have dreamt that that would happen. On the contrary: he was often very
unhappy and really struggled with his paintings.
Could that be the reason why his paintings are so remarkable?
