The readings for July 8, 2012 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reading I: Ezekiel 2:2-5 Reading II: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 Gospel: Mark 6:1-6 These readings give us courage even though they speak of failure and rejection because people resist God’s word. Jesus’ own family, friends and townspeople turn him off. Jesus returns home. A crowd comes to the synagogue to hear him speak. Jesus appears ordinary, like one of them. But his words are amazing. His own kinspeople and townspeople do not have the faith of his followers. They do not see God’s Spirit at work. Jesus, like Ezekiel and Paul, is distressed by the response of those he has sent to save. But their rejection does not stop his mission. Jesus cures the sick and moves on to teach others. Question of the Week: What keeps you going when you don’t feel support from others? Welcome to St. Victoria If you are visiting St. Victoria, welcome! If you would like information on becoming a registered parishioner at St. Victoria, please feel free to contact Julie Schmieg in the parish office. She will be happy to line up an appointment for you at one of our upcoming “Bien Venidos” registration dates for new parishioners. (Bien Venidos means good welcome.) You may reach Julie at jschmieg@stvictoria.org or 443-2661 x201. (Please Note: If you are a guest at St. Victoria and would like to make a contribution, you will find “Welcome Envelopes” in the kiosk in the Franciscan Commons. Thank you.) • Baptism Information The next Jordan Night (Baptism Class) at St. Victoria is Thursday, September 20, 6 p.m., in Clare’s Well. If you are expecting a child (birth or adoption) in the next few months, and have not attended a class within the last five years, please register for a class. We do ask parents to fulfill this requirement prior to a Baptism. • We need to see a copy of your child’s birth certificate prior to the Baptism. • When planning your child’s Baptism, please be aware that you may have only one man and one woman as sponsors and one must be a Confirmed Catholic. (Or, you may have just one sponsor.) • The next Baptisms are scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, July 7 and 8. Baptisms are celebrated during all Masses and after the 5 p.m. Saturday and 10:45 a.m. Sunday Liturgies. • Contact Mary Harvey in the parish office at mharvey@stvictoria.org or 443-2661 x206 to schedule a Baptism, register for Jordan Night and/or for information. ...to be the face and hands of Jesus Christ Mass Intentions Tuesday, July 3 — Agatha Bastyr Wednesday, July 4 — Peggy Kaufhold Thursday, July 5 — Irene Stocker Friday, July 6 — Tom Coburn Saturday, July 7 — Amy Visser Sunday, July 8 — 8:45 a.m. Don and Germaine Jesberg 10:45 a.m. St. Victoria Parish Family Sunset Fest Corner Saturday, August 25 The dates is set. Faith Formation Update As we come to the end of this fiscal year, and the real start of summer with the 4th of July just around the corner, I am pleased to announce to you that we have completed the process for the new hires for St. Victoria’s Faith Formation Department. As I mentioned in an earlier communication to you, Emily Klinker is our new DRE (Director of Religious Education), or as we like to call it at St. Victoria, our Director of Faith Formation. Emily was previously Director of Religious Education for Guardian Angels in Chaska. Emily will oversee our Religious Education and Youth programs including Grades K-8, Confirmation and Youth Ministry. Emily will begin working with us in July. Nick Tofteland, our Youth Minister, will coordinate Faith Formation for Grades 6-10 (including Confirmation) and Youth Ministry, under Emily's direction. Our new Assistant Director of Faith Formation is Sara Svenby who currently holds a leadership position in Faith Formation at St Hubert’s in Chanhassen. Sara will coordinate our K-5 Faith Formation effort under Emily's direction beginning in September. I am excited that they will share their faith, their experience, their enthusiasm and their talent with us at St. Victoria. As you have the opportunity to meet them, thank you for giving them a warm welcome to St. Victoria. I know that your rallying around them and supporting them will mean so much. I would like to express my appreciation to the team of parishioners who met all of the candidates selected for interviews for these positions. They were personally enormously helpful to me throughout this process. We are blessed by their dedication. I am also grateful to our Faith Formation volunteers for the dedication and loyal support they bring to our Faith Formation program. They are all true leaders. They have taken their time to share their faith with the young people of our parish. What a gift that is! I am so grateful to them for that and I look forward to this fall when we can all join together to continue the strong legacy for youth that has begun here at St. Victoria. Fr. Proceeds from the sale of these items are used to aid the Los Arenales Barrio, part of the Parish of Jesucristo Resuscitado in Venezuela. There’s a gray plastic tub — appropriately marked — under the coat rack in the Franciscan Commons where you can leave your used electronics. You’ll also find a box marked “Eyes on Venezuela” on top of the rack where you can leave old eyeglasses. They will be sent to the medical clinic that is also part of Jesucristo Resuscitado. Call the parish office if you have questions. Telephone Calls As announced previously, every staff member has a new extension number. While it is a priority with the St. Victoria parish staff to be available when you call or stop in, it’s not always possible. If you do call occasionally and the phone goes to voice mail, please feel free to leave a message and be assured whoever you are calling will return your call as soon as possible. Our new extensions are listed on the front of the bulletin. So — keep those calls coming and stop in whenever you are in the neighborhood — we love company!
