1969 - Birth of an industry
Adrian
Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn
have a revolutionary idea: Send shipping documents
from San Francisco to Honolulu by air so that customs
procedures can start before the ships arrive, reducing
waiting times in the harbor and cutting costs.

Seventies
 1974 - DHL London opens, DHL employs 314
people worldwide.
 1977 - DHL starts in the Middle East, Latin America
and Africa.
 1979 - In answer to the fax machine DHL adds a
parcel service to the existing document delivery
service.

Eighties & Nineties
 1985 - A new HUB is opened in Brussels.
 1991 - DHL is the first international express
company to resume service to Kuwait after the first
Gulf War.
 1999 - DHL Worldwide Express invests in 34 new
Boeing 757s. These planes cut noise at take-off by
77% and CO2 emissions by 13% compared to the
fleet of B737Fs they replace.

 2002 - Deutsche Post World Net, acquires 100% of
DHL shares.
 2005 - New uniforms for 100.000 DHL employees
