Student Performance of
Professional
Responsibilities
Social Work is a professional degree.
Therefore all Social Work students are
expected to demonstrate professional
attitude and behaviours, both inside
and outside the classroom. This
expectation adheres to standards set
out in the Canadian Association of
Social Work Education’s Code of
Ethics, which undergirds the Faculty
of Social Work’s Student Performance
of Professional Responsibilities
Policy. Failure to conduct oneself in a
professional manner may result in
discontinuation from the Social Work
program. For access to the full policy,
go to:
http://www.uregina.ca/socialwork/program

Student Email Accounts in
UR Self-Service
An email account and user name is
automatically assigned to students when
they are admitted to the U of R. The
University asks all students to check
their uregina email accounts daily.
Students have the option to forward their
U of R email account to an email address
that is checked regularly; however, some
email providers are not compatible with U
of R webmail resulting in undelivered
emails. A reminder that the UR SelfService email is the main university email
account and is not linked to the UR
Courses email account. More information

Confirmation of Enrollment
Saskatoon Social Work students may
obtain a “Confirmation of Enrollment” in
University of Regina courses by
accessing UR Self-Service. This printer
friendly confirmation of enrollment notice
is designed to serve most purposes for
which students need to prove that they
are currently enrolled. Saskatoon Social
Work students must use the Confirmation
of Enrollment, along with a U of R photo
ID if available, to access U of S services.
Student Photo ID Cards
A U of R Photo ID card is a student’s
permanent University of Regina
identification and remains in effect
throughout the student’s academic
studies at the U of R. There is no charge
to U of R students for the first card and a
minimal replacement cost for lost or
stolen cards. It is not mandatory for off
campus students to have a photo ID card
but it is strongly recommended. Photo ID
cards will supplement the confirmation of
enrollment (see above for more
information) simplifying access to U of S
services as well as for examination
purposes & security. Fall semester photo
sessions will be scheduled in late
September or early October; winter
semester photo sessions will be
scheduled in late January or early
February.

U of S Services
Recreational Facilities
AVAILABLE TO U OF R SW STUDENTS WITH RESTRICTIONS
Saskatoon U of R Social Work students have access to U of S
services, as described below. Confirmation of Enrollment (see
page 2 of this document) is required and a U of R Photo ID (also
on page 2) is recommended in order to obtain services. If you
encounter difficulties obtaining any U of S services, please contact
Sally, as soon as possible, at 306-664-7373.
U of S Library Use
In addition to U of R library holdings, Saskatoon Social Work
students have access to U of S library holdings. Keep in mind that
U of S does not have a SW program and therefore, SW library
holdings are limited. Please see “Access to Library” section for
more information.
City Transit Semester Passes
Students who are not members of USSU, and do not pay U of S
union fees, are unable to access the U-Pass bus pass. However,
students may access Saskatoon City transit semester passes, at
a student discount, from the U of S Information Kiosk, located in
Place Riel.
U of R students may be granted access to the Physical Activity
Centre by purchasing a reduced monthly membership, along with
proof of enrollment in SW courses (see Confirmation of
Enrollment on page 2).

Access to Library
ABSTRACTS/DATABASES/JOURNALS
U of R Library training sessions are
held at the Saskatoon Campus each
semester. Watch for posters and
announcements.
Saskatoon Social Work students have
access to library holdings at both the
University of Regina and University of
Saskatchewan, as outlined below:
University of Regina Library Use
Saskatoon SW students have access to
online U of R library holdings at
http://www.uregina.libguides.com/social_
work In addition, students may view
library video tutorials at
http://www.uregina.ca/library/services/vid
eo_tutorials/index.html
The most frequently used library
resources & services are:
WEBVOYAGER
The University of Regina has a library
program called WEBVOYAGER, which
enables students/instructors to view
listings of all the resources and
publications available at the U of R
library. Off-campus students may access
the WEBVOYAGER catalogue on the
web at http://voyager.uregina.ca and use
U.READ to obtain copies.
U.READ
U.READ is a U of R library service for
distance education students. By using
the toll-free number or by e-mail, requests
may be made for specific books,
photocopies of journal articles, reference
assistance and other library resources
and services. The toll free number is 1800-667-6014; e-mail address is
uread@uregina.ca Material is mailed
directly to the student with return postage
paid by U.READ. Make the requests as
detailed as possible to avoid delays giving
full titles, authors, ISBN numbers and any
other pertinent information.
Please allow a minimum of 1 week to
receive the material.
Currently registered SW students have
access to abstracts, journals and
databases through the U of R but must
first contact U.READ to obtain a barcode.
If an abstract, database or journal is not
available in full text, students should
contact U.READ and a full text version
will be mailed/emailed.
A commonly used library resource is
Social Work Abstracts. SW Abstracts is a
database that is produced by the National
Association of Social Workers, Inc. and
provides an index and abstracts to social
work and related journals, from 1977 to
current. It includes over 25,000 records
on a wide range of topics. Many of these
abstracts, databases and journals are
available by electronic format in full text at
http://voyager.uregina.ca or in hard copy
by contacting U.READ.
U of S Library Use
U of R Social Work students have access
to U of S library services, including
borrowing privileges and database/journal
access. However, library borrowing
privileges may be limited and/or database
or journal access may be restricted. In
addition, it is important to note that the U
of S does not offer a SW program so may
have fewer resources in the area of
Social Work.
SW students wishing to use the U of S
library must:

provide a Confirmation of Enrollment
and U of R photo ID if available (see
page 2)

attend a library orientation at the start
of a semester, if student is a first time
user of the U of S library. Contact the
reference desk at the U of S main
library for orientation dates and times.
Saskatoon SW students also have
access to other library holdings such
as:
COPPUL CARD
Currently registered U of R students may
borrow materials in-person from other
university libraries throughout Canada.
Students/instructors will need to obtain a
COPPUL card before travelling to other
institutions.
COPPUL cards may be
obtained by contacting U.READ.
It is recommended that
SW students use
Webvoyager to obtain a
catalogue listing of U of
R resources including
books, articles,
databases & journals by
going online to
www.uregina.ca/library
and then use U.Read (or
in person at the U of S if
resources available) to
obtain the book or
copies of articles,
databases & journals.

Other Course Options
OTHER UNIVERSITIES – LETTER OF PERMISSION
REQUIRED
A number of universities offer courses that, once completed, can
be transferred to the U of R. General University studies courses
can be taken through Athabasca University and the University of
Waterloo. In addition, University of Waterloo also offers courses
that transfer in specifically as social work courses. It is required
for students to have a Letter of Permission prior to registering in a
course at another University. Please email Sally at
sally.machibroda@uregina.ca to obtain additional information on
the Letter of Permission.
Distance Learning Opportunities
Distance Learning Opportunities are available in various formats
ranging from online, televised, blended or face-to-face through the
regional colleges and SIAST campuses. A listing of U of R
distance learning courses is available online at:
http://www.uregina.ca/cce/distance-online/index.html
Transfer Credit
Evaluation
For a listing of transfer credit course equivalents from another
university to the U of R, go online to
http://www.uregina.ca/student/registrar/transfer-credit/transfercredit-course-equivalents.html - select the previous educational
institution from the menu bar. If a course does not appear, then it
has not previously transferred over and will need to be evaluated
to determine if it meets the criteria for transfer.
Course material for most distance learning courses (including
course outlines, notes, examples and quizzes) is delivered via UR
Courses. Textbooks are obtained from the U of R Bookstore
through UR Self-Service. More information regarding UR
Courses is available online at: http://www.uregina.ca/urcourses
(select student tab on the left hand side for a guide).
Televised courses are broadcast from Regina to receiving sites
throughout the province. The receiving site in Saskatoon is Sask
Polytechnic ( Kelsey campus). Students communicate with
instructor and distant classmates through a chat link, e-mail or
telephone.
