This course contains college level material which will have mature discussions on serious topics. Points may be taken away for tardies and inappropriate behavior; however, they may be made up with copy assignments. More serious behaviors will result in a phone call home and/or referral. There will be three tests (including the final) that will be multiple choice, true/false. Syllabus quiz are questions based on this syllabus to familiarize students with assignments, rules, and guidelines. Bell ringers are discussion questions that are written in your notebook and answered by the students in the beginning of class. Interactive Student Notebook is a notebook of assignments, activities and notes that the students use on a daily basis. It serves as a portfolio of what the students have learned. Weekly spot checks are brief checks to make sure your notebook is on track and organized. Chapter notebook quizzes are 10 questions. Weekly journal entries are over sociological topics that include newspaper articles, magazine and case studies. Discussion and debates will take place on specific topics through out the week and also every Friday after the journal entries. Grading Policy: Grades will only be weighted in two categories: semester 80% and the final exam 20% of the final grade. Absences and Tardies: The school policy entails that if a student is late they will be sent to sweep, which is a classroom for late students to sit in order not to disturb their class. The student is responsible for coming to see me that day for the work that they have missed within 2 weeks other wise they will not be able to make-up any major assignments or test. Absences are crucial for the student’s success in class. Please note that the majority of assignments are done in class, therefore, is important for you to have minimal absences. If you are absent please look in the make-up work folders and talk to me a soon as you return. Make-up policy: You have as many days as you were gone (or at least within that week) to make-up any assignments or test (this only applies to excused absences). You must make an appointment with me to take the test, if an appointment is made and you do not show up, this will result in a zero unless you come see me before your appointment to cancel. Unexcused absences will result in a zero for the assignment and test given that day. CLASSROOM RULES* NUMBER ONE RULE - BE RESPECTFUL to the teacher, classroom and other students!!!!
