PRESS RELEASE Nonsuch Theatre 29 September 2014 14:34 IN GOOD COMPANY SUCCESS Nonsuch Theatre are thrilled to announce that they have been successfully selected as one of six associate companies of a brand new East Midlands focussed artist development programme based at Derby Theatre. In Good Company is the title of the scheme that is a partnership between Derby Theatre, Embrace Arts at Leicester University and Create Theatre at Vision West Nottinghamshire College in Mansfield. In Good Company was officially launched at DEparture Lounge – the summer festival at Derby Theatre – with the mission to engage, inspire and ignite a community of regional artists. All three arts organisations are committed to the development of artists and, with strong links to educational institutions, are perfectly placed to nurture and nourish emerging artists as they establish themselves as storytellers of the future. Nonsuch are thrilled to have been selected as part of this programme and look forward to the next 10 months. Artistic Director Edward Boott said “there couldn’t have been a better time to have been selected as part of this programme, there’s a real feeling of change in the theatre scene of the East Midlands at the moment and it’s great to be a part of the excitement. We have so much to learn and so far to go but this is hopefully going to be the next step in securing our future.” Nonsuch Theatre launched back in 2011 and have since produced two performance projects both in London and Nottingham. Their last work “Acqua Alta” - a contemporary reimagining of Noah’s Ark was developed with support from Arts Council England in May at Create Theatre and is set to tour across the UK in the spring of next year. As an international company Nonsuch is comprised of performers, artists, directors and technicians from seven European nations who all come together for projects in the UK. Currently the company are planting their roots in Nottingham and hope to soon muster a team to establish Nottingham’s first fringe theatre. Nonsuch’s general manager Laura Macrae feels “the expertise and skills we will gain as part of In Good Company will no doubt support our own mission to establish a home for ourselves and other companies who find themselves in the similar situation of having work to show but nowhere to perform.” As part of their associateship with In Good Company, Nonsuch will develop their next major project that has the working title of “The Party’s Over” a performance that will follows four strangers as they find themselves geographically lost after an emotional trauma. Derby Theatre’s Creative Producer for In Good Company, Natalie Ibu, said: “We are thrilled to welcome LaPelle’s Factory, Maison Foo, Nonsuch Theatre, Spiltmilk, Zealous Theatre and the graduate collective to be in good company with us over the next ten months. Each company is unique in their aesthetic, endeavour and ambition and it will be a pleasure to work alongside them, helping them reach out and above, on the bespoke Associate Companies strand of In Good Company.” Nonsuch Theatre Limited is a non-profit limited company, limited by guarantee.
