Introduksjon
Participants in this subject will get practical knowledge of applied research in a wide selection of
hotel-, tourism-, and restaurant management relevant areas. They will also get a chance to
develop their ability to evaluate and use scientific contributions.
Læringsutbytte
A candidate who has completed his or her qualification should have the following learning
outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
KNOWLEDGE

Know and understand current research in some major hospitality and tourism-relevant
areas.

within the academic field of hotel, tourism and restaurant management

Innhold
The course starts with a presentation and evaluation of the foundations for good hospitality and
tourism research followed by presentation and discussion of current research by active
researchers and industry professionals in relevant fields. The participants may also be called
upon to write reviews and discuss the available knowledge in a particular area.
Students are expected to participate actively in class, write essays, and hand in assignments.
Arbeidsformer
All presentations will be done in English. There will be minimum one session per week, which
includes presentation and classroom discussion.

The course will comply with the student evaluation procedures established by the University of
Stavanger and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Litteratur
The literature will cover themes and topics of great current interest. Required literature will be
distributed on It´s learning or handed out in advance of the weekly sessions.
