number of our sites across the world.
These investments help us meet our
customers’ expectations for world-class
power system design and manufacturing.
We need to invest in our main Derby site
so it can continue to be competitive in
today’s globalised world.
We have been based in Derby since 1906
and are a major employer in the city. Our
activities make a significant contribution
to the local economy.

At the same time, proposed developments
outside of our site will bring more traffic to
the Victory Road/Moor Lane junction. So,
we’re looking at ways we can improve our
site and, together with Derby City Council,
ensure the local road network can cope
with the anticipated level of traffic once
T12 is open.

Our proposals to move Victory Road

Moving Victory Road is central
to our plans as the road
currently cuts our site in half
and the junction with Victory
Road will come under further
pressure from additional
traffic once T12 is open.
We are proposing to move Victory Road so
it would run around the north-eastern edge
of our site from Merrill Way to Moor Lane
(shown in green on the plan opposite).
New junctions will be created on Merrill
Way and Moor Lane to improve safety
and the way that traffic flows.
Once moved, Victory Road will include a
new footway/cycleway and new crossing
points to provide better access to the
main Derby site.
The current section of Victory Road which
runs between Moor Lane and Merrill Way
will become part of the Rolls-Royce site
(shown in red on the plan opposite).
We are currently developing the design for
the new section of road, which will broadly
follow the route of the existing car park
access from Merrill Way.
Our work includes the preparation of
air quality, lighting, noise, flood risk,
landscape and ecology studies, to identify
the potential affect that the proposed new
section of road could have on the local
environment.
We are also working with Derby City
Council to carry out detailed traffic
modelling. This will help us produce a
Transport Assessment that will identify the
potential impact of moving Victory Road
on traffic on other roads in the area.
All of these studies will form part of our
planning application and will describe
both our assessment of the likely effects
and the steps we will take to reduce the
impact of the new road.

Next steps
This public engagement runs until Friday
30 January 2015. After that we will look
at all of the feedback before finalising our
proposals.
We will then submit a planning application
to Derby City Council, including:
Employee and community engagement
Consideration of feedback and finalisation of proposals
Report back to employees and community on the main
themes identified during the engagement and how we have
taken these into consideration
• detailed plans for permission to move
Victory Road; and
Submission of planning application to DCC
– detailed application for realignment of road
– outline for campus facilities
• outline plans for the changes we would
like to make to our site to create the new
campus.

Submitting this planning application is
just the first step in a long process of
investing in our Derby site to enable us
to modernise our facilities to help us
continue to be competitive and meet
the needs of our customers.
Our plans are at an early stage in their
development and as they evolve we’ll
share more details with you and ask for
