Core purpose
 The Head of Food Technology reports to the Head of Design Technology who has overall
responsibilities for standards within the faculty.
 We are looking for a well-qualified, experienced, enthusiastic teacher to lead the Food
Technology department; there will be ample scope for innovation and creative,
imaginative thinking. The key responsibilities outlined below are only a guide. It is
envisaged that the successful candidate will change and adapt in response to the needs of
the department.
 The central focus of all Head of Subject posts is to secure the achievement of the highest
quality teaching, together with continuous improvement in student learning and
attainment. This involves the development, management and maximising of staff skills
and expertise and efficient but non-intrusive administration.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Leadership
 To work with the Head of Faculty and the Leadership & Management Team (LMT) to
develop the shared vision and strategic plan for the academy which inspires and motivates
students, staff and all other members of the school community
 To be responsible for leading and developing colleagues’ performance so as to maximise
the progress of all students
 To create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships amongst members of the
department and school community
 To set targets, monitor performance and review the progress of students according to the
cycle of the School
 To lead curriculum initiatives that support the development of enriched and innovative
experiences
Learning and Teaching
 To work with the Head of Faculty, LMT and Governing Body to secure and sustain effective
teaching and learning throughout the school, monitoring and evaluating the quality of
provision and using available data to set priorities for improvement.
 To ensure that learning and teaching is at the centre of the Schools’ decision-making
 To teach within the framework of present and future policies, paying particular attention
to the policies for equality, safeguarding of students, special educational needs and
behaviour for learning
 Determining, organising and implementing a diverse, flexible curriculum and
implementing an effective assessment framework
 To ensure a consistent and continuous focus on students’ achievement and monitor, using
data and benchmarks student progress
 Ensuring that accelerated progress for low achievers, students in receipt of student
premium funding and underperformers is developed and embedded
 Promoting a culture of challenge and support for all students to enable them to achieve
success and become engaged in their own learning
 To demonstrate are articulate high expectations by setting stretching targets for the
students
 Implementing and supporting strategies that secure high levels of behaviour and
achievement
 To monitor and review classroom practice and promote improvement strategies
 To ensure that underperformance is consistently challenged and revised
Securing Accountability
 To account for and support the efficiency and effectiveness of the Food Technology
department to the Head of Faculty and others as appropriate.
 To build on and develop a school ethos which enables everyone to work collaboratively,
share knowledge and understanding, celebrate success and accept responsibility for
outcomes
 To ensure positive behaviour management strategies supporting all student’s aspects of
learning
 To support and lead areas of strategic planning which identifies priorities and targets for
ensuring that students achieve high standards and make progress.
 To lead by example demonstrating an enthusiastic approach to the development of a
personalised and innovative whole school curriculum

 To develop a nurturing learning environment where every student is supported and
challenged to meet their full potential.
 To foster in the students high expectations, a sense of responsibility and caring towards
their learning and achievement, facilities of the School and its environment
 To establish and maintain good relationships with colleagues, students and families
 To plan and develop a classroom environment which will be stimulating and conducive to a
range of activities and promotes a variety of learning styles
Strengthening Community
 To collaborate with other schools and the wider community in order to share expertise and
bring mutual benefits to enhance provision and promote positive relationships
Other
 Other tasks appropriate to the Head of Biology role and required for the efficient running
of the school, as set by the Head of School, or LMT colleagues acting on behalf of the Head
of School, will be part of the job profile.
Accountable to
 The Head of Food Technology is line managed by and accountable to the Head of
Faculty/Head of School
