We are poor, but we are making many rich in faith. We have nothing, but really we have everything.” 2 Corinthians 6:10 In January 2009 Wesley Walu sat in his village of Manja pondering his situation. His sickness had started the previous year and now he had no strength to attend the PIM teacher in-service training in Ambunti. Month after month his weakness continued, making him unable to provide for his family or pay his children’s school tuition. He went back and forth to the hospital in Wewak and spent all his money trying to get some answers, without success. One afternoon as discouragement started to engulf him, a small voice came to him, “Wesley, whom are you trusting?” He started reading the Word with renewed interest. The story of the bleeding woman in Mark 5:25-30 filled him with faith. He also found Ps 46 helpful: “I am your shelter and your strength.” When Wesley arrived for the January 2010 teacher course, he said, “God’s strength came to me gradually, bit by bit. It started to build me up so I was able to walk and do the work of looking after my family.” In August 2011 Wesley expressed, “I have a big concern for the men and women and youth who have left God’s paths and are busy with things of the world. At the moment our church doesn’t have a pastor; there is no one to lead the sheep.” Wesley increased his personal involvement until now he preaches almost every Sunday, in addition to his teaching responsibilities. In 2012 Wesley taught 35 students in “Elementary-2” or second grade in Manja. When after the first half of the year PIM faced a serious shortage of funds and we closed down most of the schools, Wesley continued to teach as a volunteer and graduated his students in November so they could continue on the next year at the Primary School in a nearby village. This year 2013 he anticipates having 41 students in his E-Prep (Kindergarten) class. One of his big answers to prayer is that PIM workmen installed a 2000 gallon rain catchment water tank in Manja village with funds made available from an NGO in 2011. Health has improved in the village since that time. Pray that Wesley would continue to make others rich in faith this year. Praise God for keenly interested participants in a pastors’ course taught by Eric and David Wakuri in mid Feb in Blackwater village. They want to start a Bible School! Lift up the Level 2 Leadership workshop for Sandaun Provincial government leaders March 6-8. Thank you for partnering with us to make others rich in faith! Eric and Penny Schering
