*The Covenant
Students living at the Residential Leadership Center will create a common covenant
determining appropriate behavior in the Residence. The goal of the covenant is to help a
diverse group to explicitly state common ground-rules, thereby promoting community
and avoiding disagreements before they start.
The contents of the covenant will depend on the desires of the residents, as mediated by
the Director. The intent is not to have a legalistic list of “do’s” and “don’ts”, but rather an
agreed-upon way of living together.
Requirements for Leadership Staff
 Outgoing, risk-taking personalities.
 Ability to work both in group and while unsupervised.
 Willing to accept both authority and responsibility, knowing that “failing
forward” is expected (failure is fine if it is acknowledged and learned from).
 A specific area of expertise (e.g., music leadership, administration, event planning
– other areas are welcome) for focused leadership within Wesley.
 Taking charge in the area of expertise, given responsibility (and concomitant
authority) by the Director.
 Regular recruiting of new students to Wesley.
 Attendance at a Staff Retreat the week before classes in August 2016.
 Attendance at a 2017 Wesley Spring Break trip. Exceptions may be made in
advance for students having strong reasons not to attend. Stipend recipients who
participate in basic fundraising work (mostly letter writing) will need to spend at
most $200 on this trip; the remaining costs will be covered by donations.
 Working approximately 10 hours a week at $12/hour during the academic
semester, including:
o Work within the assigned ministry area.
o Weekly meetings with all Leadership Staff.
o 1-1 meetings with the Director every other week.
Leadership Staff will work under Director Charlie Farnum, a United Methodist pastor
and a prior professor of Computer Science at Wright State University. Dr. Farnum
believes leaders learn both from their successes and their failures and is seeking students
who have already demonstrated competence (through coursework and/or prior
employment) and are seeking greater responsibility and authority.
