HOA News & Information Property Management Update HOA Items: •In nonresident sport fees, the HOA has collected $3,250.00 in 2012 ($1,715 in 2011). Amenity Monitoring: • We currently have security guards working part time, 56 hours per week, spanning across 7 days. They will continue this schedule through the end of August. • Police continue to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Playgrounds: Recreation Station continues monthly inspections of the playgrounds and takes care of necessary safety issues. Re-staining of play equipment has been completed in Olmsted, Palisades and Kentmere. On the schedule to be re-stained are Gramercy, Highcroft, Madison, Revere, and Winterthur playgrounds. To Find Out About All The Events & Happenings at Legacy Park, go to: www.legacypark.org 2 HOA News & Information LEGACY PARK PLAYGROUNDS We need your help! We have twelve playgrounds in Legacy Park and we work with Recreation Station to keep our playgrounds safe for our children to enjoy. Each month, we continue to have issues that are in essence VANDALISM to the playgrounds. Most of the maintenance that is required to the play sets is not from normal wear and tear, but from misuse of the equipment. The wood roofs of the play sets are NOT constructed to be played on. Other activities that result in damage include: throwing swings and chains over the head beams on the swing sets, playing on the split-rail fences or swinging on the gates to the fences, and, of course, graffiti! Remember that no one under the age of twelve should be on the playgrounds without adult supervision. It is imperative that the adults in charge at a playground watch their children and help keep the areas safe. If you see someone misusing the equipment, please ask them to stop and/or contact the HOA office with the name of the person and/or description. Everyone working together helps keep Legacy Park a great community! Are you going out of town? Did you know that the city of Kennesaw Police Department offers an on vacation house check? Simply visit the Kennesaw Police web site at www. kennesaw-ga.gov. The Kennesaw Police Department will check your residence several times daily while you are out of town. House checks are performed free of charge to City residents while away on vacation or business. Request forms are available at the police departments’ office, or you can fill out the form online. DOES YOUR FAMILY ENJOY THE COMMON AREAS IN LEGACY PARK? Legacy Park is a beautiful community in which to live and play. The HOA has one groundskeeper to work and clean throughout Legacy Park. We are asking for residents to take pride in our community and help to keep it clean and beautiful. Please clean up after yourself, your children and especially your pets. There are trash receptacles all around the circle and in all the amenity areas. Please dispose of your trash properly when you are finished swimming, playing tennis, soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. Let’s all work together to keep Legacy Park beautiful! Swimming Pool News GLASS – There is absolutely NO GLASS allowed at any pool – NO EXCEPTIONS! This is for your safety. Should a glass item break at the pool we have no way of knowing if any of the glass got into the pool. As a result the pool will have to be shut down. Have your ID ready! If you do not have your Legacy Park picture ID with a 2012 sticker on it, you will be asked to leave the pool. The pool management company is hired by the HOA to enforce the rules at the pools as the Board sets. If you have issues with the any of the guards, please contact the HOA office and please do not get upset with the guards for doing their jobs. Remember the guest policy: Up to two (2) guests will be allowed per resident over the age of 18 for the use of the Swimming Pools, Tennis Courts, and Basketball Court. Unaccompanied children between the ages of 12 and 18 are allowed only one (1) guest while on LP property and when using the amenities. The Quiet Pool – Please remember that the quiet pool (the smaller pool below the main pool) is for QUIET activities. Please be courteous to your neighbors who come to this pool for some quiet time! Remember that you must have a “smart” card issued by the HOA in order to open the gate. If you have purchased a gym access card, you are set for accessing the Quiet Pool too. You must be at least 16 to purchase a card and they are $10. This is a one time fee to cover the cost of the card. HOA News & Information 3 THE MODIFICATION PROCESS EXPLAINED! So, you’ve decided that the time has come to make some changes to the outside of the house; or maybe someone else decided for you! Any major change to the exterior of the property requires approval from the Legacy Park Architectural Review Committee. This includes: Installation of a fence Removal of trees Change in landscaping, other than regular planting and pruning of flowers and shrubs, including adding borders to landscape beds Painting of the house Installation of decking, patios, roofs, play-sets, trampolines, etc. First fill out a Modification Application, available in the office or at www.legacypark.org; include pictures of the house and proposed project, plot plans, paint swatches, building materials, etc. The more complete the application, the better! When timing your project, keep in mind that the ARC only meets once per month, on the second Wednesday. If your application comes in during the third week of the month, it may be some time before it’s processed. Please consult the Design Guidelines, available at our website, in Documents, under the HOA link, for a complete list of the dos and don’ts. APRIL BOARD MEETING “Unofficial” Notes “DR. FIXIT, PhD” At the April meeting, in attendance were the five Board members, four office staff and twenty-five residents. Professional Home Dabbler The Board took the following actions: • Unanimously approved the previous Board Meeting Minutes and the March Adjustment Report. • Unanimously approved a motion to specify that any Neighborhood Watch Program in Legacy Park is not affiliated with Legacy Park HOA. • Approved a resolution regarding Board / Committee / Office liaison communication with a 3-2 vote, (Jim Bitner, Allen Massey and Nimesh Patel voting yes and Bob Mulligan and Mike Riedesel voting no.) • Unanimously approved the Youth Tennis and Youth Soccer Camps for the summer. • The Board discussed: the replacement of the Winterthur Bridge; suspending third-party events on Legacy Park Property due to ADA concerns; and tennis procedures concerning various issues. No Job Too Small, Just Call The complete set of minutes for a Board meeting is typically approved at the board meeting the following month. Once the minutes are approved, they may be viewed in a secured section (for Legacy Park homeowners only) of the Legacy Park website or in the Legacy Park HOA office. Road congestion is always a hot topic in Kennesaw, but never more than it is now! Because of my personal involvement in the Atlanta Regional Commission Transportation Roundtable, I am frequently asked about the project list the upcoming Regional Transportation Referendum would fund and how the penny sales tax being considered will specifically impact our community. As the July 31 referendum approaches, everyone will be given an opportunity to find out - and without having to attend a meeting in person to get answers to your questions. Please join me and Cobb Chairman Tim Lee for a “wireside chat” at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, June 6. You can register by calling 404-463-3227 or visiting www.wiresidechats.com. You will be asked to provide a phone number and on the night of the wireside chat, you will receive a phone call on the number provided. You may have seen the 125th anniversary banners around town. Can you believe Kennesaw received its charter from the state in 1887? Although the formal recognition will take place at the Taste of Kennesaw event in September, we’ll be giving out some t-shirts and lapel pins over the next few months. These items will feature the logo designed by KMHS student Rachel Fred. Enjoy some outside activities before the summer heat sets in, including Dinner at the Depot on Monday evenings and the Farmers Market on Tuesday mornings. There’s also the Dream Dash 5K road race on June 16 benefiting the Dream Foundation which supports the Teen Center and the after-school program for teens. And be sure to make plans to attend the annual pre-Independence Day concert and fireworks on July 3 called “Salute to America.” This year, entertainment will be provided on two stages, with tributes to Neil Diamond and Billy Joel on the main stage staring at 6 pm.
