Final Exam: TBA
Deferred Exam: TBA.
About Labs:
There will be two 50 minute laboratory classes each week. In order to help you prepare for each lab, a
list of preparation problems is provided in a separate sheet called “Preparation Materials for Math 101
Labs”. You are strongly encouraged to do as many of these problems as possible before going to the lab,
so that you may use the lab time effectively. Some of the labs will include a quiz, with problems coming
directly from, or being very close variants of, the preparation problems. At the end of the term, your lab
instructor will compute an average taking into account all of the quizzes from the term.
About Assignments:
There will be 5 homework assignments. Each assignment is to be handed in by 12:00 (noon) of the due
date, in the appropriate assignment box on the third floor of CAB. See the attached schedule for the due
date of assignments. Please note: Late assignments will not be graded. We may also use sets of
drill problems trough MapleTA as a source for extra practice, althoug the exact nature of these problems
as well as their posting times will be decided at a later time along the term. Problems from both the
assignments and the online drill problems are natural candidate-problems to appear in the exams.
About Exams:
The exams are closed book, closed notes. No calculators and no formula sheets are allowed at
the exams. Students missing an exam due to illness or other suitable reasons must provide adequate
documentation. See the university calendar for details on the regulations. Note that there is no defereed
midterm exam. If you miss the midterm exam for a valid reason, the weight will be transferred to the
final. Students who miss the final exam may write a deferred exam only if they obtain a formal (in
writing) University accepted excuse for their absence. For a possible re-examination, check with your
Faculty office.
University Regulations:
Policy about course outlines can be found in 23.4(2) of the University Calendar. The University of
Alberta is committed to the highest standards of academic integrity and honesty. Students are expected to
be familiar with these standards regarding academic honesty and to uphold the policies of the University
in this respect. Students are particularly urged to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the Code
of Student Behaviour (online at www.uofaweb.ualberta.ca/secretariat/studentappeals.cfm) and avoid any
behaviour which could potentially result in suspicions of cheating, plagiarism, misrepresentation of facts
and/or participation in an offence. Academic dishonesty is a serious offence and can result in suspension
or expulsion from the University.
