This guide is part of the Working / Studying Abroad series.
This is not a definitive list. If you are interested in these types of schemes then be
proactive in searching out vacancies with all organisations that interest you.
Not all of these organisations require a second language but still look for evidence of
a global outlook and a willingness to relocate abroad if required. Most offer a range of
roles open to students from any degree discipline. Others will look for Business of
engineering / technical degrees.

Security Services: MI5, MI6 and GCHQ all employ linguists, but are particularly interested in

EU Institutions - Recruit for 5 month work experience opportunities called “stages”, which run twice
a year. You can apply for administrative experience or translator experience. Translation requires a
degree and two EU community languages as well as your mother tongue.
