THE ALCHEMIST PROJECT
Prologue and Part I, Section A Assignment:
1. Choose one of the places/settings in the novel and research it using AT LEAST 2 sources.
2. Give credit to the sources you used when researching the setting. Be sure to list all pertinent information
regarding your sources.
3. Design a travel brochure that would entice someone to visit your setting. Include at least 5 different
images AND descriptions, details, etc.
4. You have 3 choices as to how to complete the brochure. Please see The Alchemist Section A Assignment
document in the course.
5. Save all of this work in a folder titled NOVEL SECTION A. Do not submit anything at this time.
Part II, Section B Assignment:
1. Choose a character from Part II of the novel and think about his/her qualities: what’s good or bad?
What’s inspiration? What’s impressive? What does this person care about?
2. Choose a song that you think represents this character well. (If you can’t find one, write one!) This will
be his/her THEME SONG 
CAUTION: THE SONG MUST BE SCHOOL-APPROPRIATE! USE COMMON SENSE!
3. Submit the song’s title, artist, and lyrics (if possible, include a link to the jam, too!)
4. Pretend YOU are the character and write a paragraph (or a few) to explain why this song fits you so well.
YOU MUST GIVE AT LEAST THREE REASONS!
5. You have two options for #4; please refer to the The Alchemist Section B document in the course.
6. Save all of this work in a folder titled NOVEL SECTION B. Do not submit anything at this time.
Part III and Epilogue, Section C Assignment:
1. Read the review by Dana Schwartz as a model for what you will be writing.
2. Choose THREE scenes from the novel that stuck out, made an impression on you, you vividly remember,
etc. At least ONE of these scenes must come from Part III of the novel.
3. For EACH scene, write a brief summary of what it is about, explain in detail why you chose it, and
describe a symbol that could represent that scene. See the model on the The Alchemist Section C document
in the course for guidance.
4. Save all of this work in a folder titled NOVEL SECTION C. Do not submit anything at this time.
IT’S TIME TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER and SUBMIT!!
1. Copy all three folders (NOVEL SECTIONS A, B, and C) into ONE folder titled THE ALCHEMIST.
2. You will submit The Alchemist folder to the Assignment: The Alchemist link.
