If you desire to purchase the text, you can purchase it at any one of the three book stores on
campus or online at a number of different outlets. Our text is "Mathematics with Applications by
Lial, Hungerford, and Holcomb (Ninth Edition)". Several options are available when choosing
your text. The first option is to purchase a text that is shrink wrapped with a MyMathLab code.
This package comes with a collection of Digital Video Disks. These disks review every section in
the book. A second option is to purchase the MyMathLab code only. For most this is the best
option because the text is embedded in the MyMathLab program and you can copy pages if you
like.
Once you have a MyMathLab code, registration is simple. Grab your code, the course number,
Del Mar Colleges’ zip code “78404” and a valid email address. Go to www.coursecompass.com
and get started. The course code for your course is “johnson50307”. If you follow the
instructions on the card all should go well.

Course Measurable Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course the students should
be able to do the following:
1. Be able to find the rate of change of a function, both over an interval and instantaneously.
2. Use the derivative to study rates of change and marginal changes in economic applications
3. Construct accurate graphs of functions using the concepts of calculus.
4. Find optimum values of functions and apply them to practical situations, including related
rates.
5. Solve problems involving logarithmic or exponential growth and decay using ideas of calculus.
6. Find anti-derivatives, both as indefinite integrals and as solutions to simple differential
equations.
7. Use the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus to evaluate definite integrals and solve their
applications including average value
Evaluation Criteria: Your letter grade will be based on your performance on the following:
1. Successful completion of this course requires that students do homework over material
covered in each class lecture. Therefore, homework will be assigned after each lecture
through coursecompass and will be due the day of each exam.
2. There will be 4 exams in this course. Exam dates are given below.
3. There will be a final exam. The lowest of your exam scores will be replaced by
the score received on the final exam provided the score on the final exam is
greater.
