Grand Rapids, MI.: 1999 Equipment • • • Basketballs – at least one basketball for each student Basketball hoops Cones – at least 12 Biblical Integration • • The Physical Education program is based on the passage from 1 Timothy 4:7b-8: o “Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value in all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” ▪ Throughout the class (and ultimately, the entire school career), godliness is taught and emphasized. Other passages from scripture integrated throughout our program are: o Be your best. (Colossians 3:23) o Be a team player. (John 17:23) o Be respectful. (1 Peter 2:17) o Be joyful. (Psalms 100:4) Assessments • • There will be 5 points available each day. Your grade will depend on the sum of your point total at the end of each quarter. This portion will be dependent on three areas: o Attitude (your words and willingness to participate) o Effort (work ethic and level of participation) o Attendance ▪ Absences can be made up by performing 45 minutes of activity and completing a Home Work-Out sheet. ▪ Non-adherence to the dress code cannot be made-up and will go down as a zero (0) in the gradebook. Student Activities • • • 3 days a week – Sport component– the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the unit is used for individual skill development, with the remaining time dedicated to group/team application 1 day a week – Fitness day – agilities, endurance, coordination 1 day a week – Pray and Play (time of class fellowship and prayer, followed by play in the sport that is currently being taught All Students are exposed to the basic skills of each unit, with one-on-one time spent with each student. Those who master the basic skills are introduced to more advanced skills and strategy.
