TITLE AND CLASSIFICATION: Staff Accountant / Exempt
REPORTING LOCATION: Hackensack, NJ
REPORTS TO: Accounting Manager
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: Timely process accounts payable and expense reports; monthly prepaid and accrual
analysis and general accounting. Assist with month and quarter-end financial closes and annual reporting. To
exceed expectations consistently while demonstrating the capabilities to progress to the next level within the
finance organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Process accounts payable in the Great Plains accounting system with minimal supervision:
o Obtain appropriate approvals; Code or verify appropriate coding for invoices and expense
reports; Prepare payments via wire request forms, manual checks, and online payments.
o Maintain accurate records of all activities in Great Plains.
o Collaborate with bank personnel to stop payment on checks and respond to vendor inquiries.
o Monitor accounts payable aging for timely resolution of long outstanding payables, overpayments,
etc. and reconcile as appropriate.
 Assist with month-end and quarter-end financial closes:
o Reconcile bank statements and follow up on long outstanding reconciling items.
o Amortize prepaid expenses and reconcile the prepaid expense accounts.
o Maintain the fixed assets ledger and prepare quarterly fixed asset rollforward.
o Reconcile the accounts payable sub-ledger to the general ledger.
o Record monthly accruals, release accruals for invoices received, and reconcile accrued expense
accounts.
 Assist with quarterly and annual reporting:
o Rollforward and populate press releases.
o Assist with footing and tie-outs of financial statement schedules and content.
o Prepare disclosures, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 Ability to think critically, using independent judgment and resources.
 Possess technical accounting knowledge with a thorough understanding of accounting concepts and
principles.
 Possess excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
 Demonstrate a proven ability to recognize when to roll up your sleeves, take initiative and work
independently, as well as when to collaborate and pitch in as part of a team to achieve objectives.
 Proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
 Possess a meticulous attention to detail, accuracy and deadlines.
Staff Accountant
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
 Experience with Microsoft Great Plains preferred.
 At least two years of progressive accounting and reporting experience.
 Experience coordinating and working with external auditors preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
 Must be able to sit for long periods of time using a computer.
 Typical office environment in a multi-level facility.
