January 27, 2014 Talman Brivio Sociology 1010 Axana King Social Location Definition and Example: Social Location is the place of the individual in society. It is an important key in order to really understand who a person is. It has to do with person’s race, gender, class, sexuality, religion, age, education, marital status and political views. For example in my case, I was born and rise in the Peru, my parents are Peruvians as well all the rest of my family with the exception of my great grandfather who was an Italian immigrant to Peru after WWI. I am male, straight, single, with no kids, with Christian beliefs who had attended to catholic school, then went to college to study Business Administration for 3 years, after that I started working for a financial institution. At the age of 23 moved to United States of America with the intention to learn English, work, to continue my education and to have another experience living and learning in a different country with different culture, with different system, different reality and with different language. Influences in my Life: In my attempt to live my dream to live in this country, with different system and rules and language, made me learn and adapted to this new society. Learning and exploring all your resources and tools in the search of making your place in this society. With my background in sales, finances and speaking Spanish as my native language, it had influenced and helped me in my life in this country to perform my work as a Loan Officer and as Real Estate Agent in the Hispanic population for over 10 years and had gave me the opportunity to travel to another cities and continents which is something that I loved. As a student, I am still pursuing my dream to have a degree from an American School, and I believe that it will increase my opportunities at work as well in my personal life and that will have a great effect in my life and in my place in this society. As a Christian, my beliefs had influenced in my spiritual live, it has been different coming from a country where most people were Catholics and now living in this city where most people are Latter Day Saint, it has been a great experience, but it did not chance my beliefs. I practice the principle of integration and participation, to embrace and learn the new culture of this society and after many years living in this country, participating in our democracy, voting, keeping informed on what is happening in our government, our environment, listening, and watching news, politics and everything that concerns our society, and always hoping and looking to keep Peace and No War.
